Yamburg, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug
Yamburg (russian: Ямбург) is a rural locality (a settlement) in Nadymsky District of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Russia, north of the Arctic Circle on the Gulf of Ob. The name of the settlement is derived from the Yamburg gas field, which was discovered in 1969. Yamburg was constructed in the early 1980s as the base of operations for the exploration and development of the gas field. Yamburg is a company town, and the vast majority of its 5,000–6,000 inhabitants are employees of Gazprom. Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug
The Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YaNAO; russian: Яма́ло-Не́нецкий автоно́мный о́круг (ЯНАО), ; yrk, Ямалы-Ненёцие автономной ӈокрук, ) or Yamalia (russian: Ямалия) is a federal subject of Russia and an autonomous okrug of Tyumen Oblast. Nadymsky District (russian: Нады́мский райо́н) is an administrativeLaw #42-ZAO and municipalLaw #111-ZAO district (raion), one of the seven in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug of Tyumen Oblast, Russia. It is located in the central and southern parts of the autonomous okrug. The area of the district is .
