The Yamaha YMF278B, also known as the OPL4 (OPL is an acronym for ''FM Operator Type-L''), is a sound chip that incorporates both FM synthesis and sample-based synthesis (often incorrectly called "wavetable synthesis") by Yamaha. Sample-based synthesis component The sample synthesis part is based on pulse-code modulation (PCM). Yamaha Portasound electronic musical keyboards were produced by the Yamaha Corporation during the 1980s and 1990s. The Yamaha MU-series is a line of sound modules built by Yamaha. All sound modules except MU5 support Yamaha XG. The sound modules were commonly used when computers had slower processors. Moonsound is the name of a sound card released for the MSX home-computer system at the Tilburg Computer Fair in 1995.
