Yale Evelev
Yale Evelev is the president of Luaka Bop Records. A 2013 article at NPR.org described Evelev as someone who "digs up information about great-but-forgotten musicians for a living." He was raised in Philadelphia, and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. In the 1970s he worked at Soho Music Gallery in New York, and in 1980 took a job as promotions director at the New Music Distribution Service, which specialized in independent music releases. He later went to work for the Brooklyn Academy of Music, where he served as Director of their New Music America series from 1988 to 1990. Among the performers he booked was Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, with whom he became friends. In 1988 Byrne founded Luaka Bop, and in 1990 hired Evelev to run the label. Luaka Bop Records
Luaka Bop is a New York–based record label founded by musician David Byrne, former lead singer and guitarist for the art rock– new wave band Talking Heads. What began with Byrne making cassettes of his favorite Tropicália tracks for his friends became a full-fledged record label in 1988 after Byrne received a solo artist deal from Warner Bros. Since then, Luaka Bop has developed into a label known for bringing eclectic music to new audiences. Though initially affiliated with Warner Bros, Luaka Bop has been wholly independent since 2006. Often categorized as a “ world music” label, Luaka Bop considers its own music to be mostly contemporary pop. Geggy Tah
Geggy Tah is a band initially composed of writer/singer Tommy Jordan and keyboard/guitarist Greg Kurstin. Each of them has a younger sister who was unable to pronounce her brother's name when very young; "Geggy" and "Tah" were the baby girls' mispronunciations of their brothers' names. Their first release, ''Grand Opening'', appeared in 1994 on David Byrne's label Luaka Bop. For their 1996 release '' Sacred Cow'', they added drummer Daren Hahn to the lineup. Also on Luaka Bop, the album spawned the hit single "Whoever You Are" which peaked at #16 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart (the song would also appear in a Mercedes-Benz commercial circa 2001). William Ezechukwu Onyeabor (, ; 26 March 1946 – 16 January 2017) was a Nigerian funk musician and businessman. His music was widely heard in Nigeria in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Daniel Lentz (born March 10, 1942, Latrobe, Pennsylvania, United States) is an American classical electronic music composer and artist who specializes in sculptured acrylic illuminated manuscripts. Biography Lentz achieved notability as a musician while a student at St. Vincent College and at Brandeis University, when he was awarded a fellowship in composition at Tanglewood in the summer of 1966.
