Yagodninsky District
Yagodninsky District (russian: Я́годнинский райо́н) is an administrativeLaw #1292-OZ and municipalLaw #511-OZ district (raion), one of the eight in Magadan Oblast, Russia. It is located in the western central part of the oblast. The area of the district is . Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Yagodnoye. Population: 15,833 ( 2002 Census); The population of Yagodnoye accounts for 42.8% of the district's total population. Geography The district borders with Susumansky District in the north, Srednekansky District in the east, Khasynsky District in the south, and with Tenkinsky District in the west. There are a number of abandoned villages in the district, such as Taskan, Elgen and Ust-Taskan. Jack London Lake
Jack London Lake (russian: Озеро Джека Лондона, Ozero Dzheka Londona) is a mountain lake located in the Yagodninsky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia. It was named in 1932 in honor of American writer, journalist and socialist activist Jack London by Russian geologist P. Skornyakov, following the wish of Yuri Bilibin, the head of the first geological expedition to Kolyma, who had expressed the idea to name one of the yet unnamed geographical locations in the Far Northeast after the writer. Geography The lake lies above sea level between the Angachak Range (russian: Ангачак) to the west and the Uaza-Ina to the east, on the upper reaches of the Kolyma basin. The outflow is the Kiuyel-Sien, a Kolyma River tributary. The lake contains four islands. There is a weather station on Vera Island (russian: Остров Вера). Khasynsky District (russian: Хасы́нский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the eight in Magadan Oblast, Russia.Law #1292-OZ As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Khasynsky Urban Okrug.Law #1885-OZ Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Palatka. As of the 2010 Census, the total population of the district was 8,141, with the population of Palatka accounting for 52.1% of that number. Bakhapcha
The Bakhapcha (russian: Бахапча; also ''"Бохапча"'') is a river in Magadan Oblast, Russia. It has a length of and a drainage basin of . The Bakhapcha is a right tributary of the upper course of the Kolyma. The nearest village is Sinegorye, located to the west of its mouth. The upper course of the river is a protected area. Course The source of the Bakhapcha is in lake Solnechnoye, a small lake located west of the Olsky Plateau (Ольское плато), at the western end of the Kolyma Mountains. The Maymandzhin Range rises to the east of the river basin. The river heads across an uninhabited area roughly northwards until its mouth. Flowing across mountainous terrain there are many rapids. In the floodplain of the middle reaches the riverbed branches into sleeves with many islands in between. Further downstream the river is slightly meandering. Taskan
The Taskan ( rus, Таскан) is a river in the Susuman and Yagodninsky districts of Magadan Oblast, Russia. It is a left hand tributary of the Kolyma. Its length is , with a drainage basin of . The Taskan was first mapped in the 19th century by explorer Jan Czerski. Perch, ruffe, gudgeon and burbot are found in the waters of the river. Course The Taskan River begins in the southeastern slopes of high Mount Shoguchan, at the eastern end of the Chersky Range in an area of ice fields, the largest of which is . It heads roughly southeastwards across permafrost terrain covered by tundra vegetation interspersed with sparse taiga. Orotukan
Orotukan (russian: Оротука́н) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Yagodninsky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located in the Kolyma region about north of Magadan, on the right bank of the Orotukan River (a tributary of the Kolyma). Its population has declined since the fall of the Soviet Union: History In 1931, as geologists found gold reserves in the valleys of the Kolyma region, they built a camp on the river close to present location of Orotukan. Shortly thereafter the construction of the Kolyma Highway (also known as the ''Road of Bones'') began. The settlement was founded on its present site in the mid-1930s. It received its name from the river, whose name came from the Yakut word ''өртөөһүн (örtööhün)'' meaning ''small burnt meadow or forest area''. Debin (river)
The Debin ( rus, Дебин) is a river in the Yagodninsky district of Magadan Oblast, Russia. It is a left hand tributary of the Kolyma. Its length is , counting the length of the Archagyl stream at its head, and it has a drainage basin of . Yagodnoye village is located on the left bank of the Debin; the R504 Kolyma Highway crosses the river in its middle course and runs on the northern side of the river, roughly parallel to its lower course until it bends northwards near Debin. Kolyma (river)
The Kolyma ( rus, Колыма, p=kəlɨˈma; sah, Халыма, translit=Khalyma) is a river in northeastern Siberia, whose basin covers parts of the Sakha Republic, Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, and Magadan Oblast of Russia. The Kolyma is frozen to depths of several metres for about 250 days each year, becoming free of ice only in early June, until October. Taskan (village)
Taskan (russian: Таскан) was a rural locality in Yagodninsky District, Magadan Oblast, Russian Far East. There is a road leading to Yagodnoye to the southwest of Taskan and another to Elgen to the southeast.Google Earth Geography This abandoned settlement is located in the Upper Kolyma Highlands by the confluence of the Mylga and the Taskan, a left tributary of the Kolyma that flows from the Chersky Range. History Taskan was established in the 1930s. In the 1940s, there was a food processing factory which employed mostly prisoners. In the 1960s, the first two-story wooden buildings were built, as the economy began to develop. By 1993, the population had risen to about 850 inhabitants and there was a state farm that specialized in animal husbandry and the growing of vegetables.
