Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School (YAGSHS) is a public high school for girls in Tanoso in the Atwima Mponua District in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. History Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High was established in 1951 by Ghana's first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. The school was founded in 1960 with funds from the Ghana Education Trust. Yaa Asantewaa is named after the Queen mother of Ejisu Yaa Asantewaa who led a war against the British Colonialists. Alliance Yaa Asantewaa Senior High maintains an ongoing alliance with their boys' school, Prempeh College called Amanadehye. Ashanti Region
The Ashanti Region is located in southern part of Ghana and it is the third largest of 16 administrative regions, occupying a total land surface of or 10.2 percent of the total land area of Ghana. Yaa Asantewaa
Yaa Asantewaa I (born 17 October 1840 – 17 October 1921) was the Queen Mother of Ejisu in the Ashanti Empirenow part of modern-day Ghana – appointed by her brother Nana Akwasi Afrane Opese, the Edwesuhene, or ruler, of Edwesu. In 1900 she led the Ashanti war known as the War of the Golden Stool, also known as the Yaa Asantewaa War of Independence, against the British Empire. Biography Yaa Asantewaa was born in 1840 in Besease, the daughter of Kwaku Ampoma and Ata Po. Her brother, Afrane Panin, became the chief of Edweso, a nearby community. After a childhood without incident, she cultivated crops on the land around Boankra. She entered a polygamous marriage with a man from Kumasi, with whom she had a daughter. Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong is a Ghanaian award-winning media personality and entrepreneur who was a programs and channels manager at Crystal TV and Multimedia Group. Education Nana Yaa studied at  Yaa Asantewaa Girls' Senior High School in Kumasi where she developed a keen interest in the media space. She was the host of a youth talk show "Conscious Vibes" which discussed social issues and challenges impacting the lives of young people. Jane Awindor (born April 10, 1987), better known by her stage name Efya, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and actress from Kumasi. Ellen Boakye
Ellen Boakye is a Ghanaian people, Ghanaian Cardiology, cardiologist for children. She is known for winning 18 awards for distinguishing herself in her course of study. Education Boakye was born in Kokofu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
