YCO Shine Masters
The YCO Shine Masters were a Philippine Basketball League (then known as the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL) team that played for three conferences through the 1986 and 1987 seasons, winning two PABL titles. The ballclub was owned by the Elizalde Group of Companies, which also owned its predecessor team, the YCO Painters and the original Tanduay franchise in the PBA. The Shine Masters became the first commercial team of Alvin Patrimonio. He appeared in a TV commercial endorsing the YCO Paint Product in 1986. The Shine Masters formed a strong line-up in their three conference appearance. YCO won the 1986 PABL Third Conference Crown, known as Filipino Cup, at the expense of ESQ-Sta.Lucia Realty. Philippine Basketball League
The Philippine Basketball League (PBL) was a commercial semi-professional basketball league in the Philippines. The league was composed of several commercial teams with several collegiate and provincial stars. History The PBL was formed on May 6, 1983, a brainchild of San Miguel Corporation chairman Danding Cojuangco, under its original name the Philippine Amateur Basketball League (PABL). It was the successor of the defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), which folded during the early-1980s. During the inaugural PABL tournament, 37 teams divided into four divisions from collegiate and commercial ranks participated in the tournament that was played in the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum. De La Salle University emerged champion in the league's dry-run. Towards the end of 1983, 16 teams founded the PABL and the league held its first official tourney, the Founder's Cup. Renato Guilas Agustin (born August 1, 1963) is a Filipino former professional basketball player, politician, and current assistant coach for the San Miguel Beermen. Ronnie Magsanoc
Ronald "Ronnie" Magsanoc (born April 11, 1966) is a Filipino coach, basketball analyst, and retired professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He was known for his moniker "The Point Laureate". Collegiate career Magsanoc played collegiate ball with Benjie Paras, Eric Altamirano, future UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde and Joey Guanio for the University of the Philippines basketball squad, then coached by Joe Lipa, where he helped the Fighting Maroons win the UAAP championship in 1986, their first basketball championship in 48 years. Frederick "Eric" Altamirano (born August 8, 1966 in Davao City) is a former Filipino basketball player and he formerly the assistant coach of the Alaska Aces. In the present he is the commissioner of Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 He was part of the Philippine national team that played at the 1986 Asian Games. Glenn Capacio (born May 15, 1964, in Palo, Leyte) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the former head coach of PBA team GlobalPort Batang Pier and was also the former head coach of the FEU Tamaraws from 2007 to 2010. College and amateur career Capacio was the FEU Tamaraws' skipper during the 1983 UAAP season and the most dependable performer for rookie coach Bong Chua. Nelson Asaytono
Nelson Asaytono (born January 25, 1967) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player who played for Purefoods, Swift/Sunkist/Pop Cola, San Miguel Beer, and Red Bull in the PBA during his 17-year career. Collegiate / Amateur career Asaytono is one of the best players ever to step up in a less-known university in University of Manila under the tutelage of former pro Loreto Tolentino, his coach at UM Hawks. His first national stint was being part of the RP Youth team that played in the 9th ABC Youth Championships held in Manila. Isabelo "Jojo" Lastimosa Jr. (born March 10, 1964) is a Filipino former professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association for the Purefoods Hotdogs, the Alaska Aces and the Pop Cola Panthers from 1988 to 2002. He was also a former member of the Philippines' national basketball team during the 1980s and 1990s. He also played for the University of San Jose - Recoletos in Cebu City. RFM-Swift Hotdogs
RFM-Swift Hotdogs is a former basketball team of the now defunct Philippine Basketball League in which the ballclub played in the league's inaugural season in 1983 until the disbandment of the franchise in 1996. The Company, Republic Flour Mills (RFM), through owner and then PABL chairman Joey Concepcion III, is known to be supportive of amateur basketball and sponsoring the national team during the late-1980s. RFM won three PABL championships from 1987-1989, first with coach Yeng Guiao and with borrowed players Jojo Lastimosa and Peter Aguilar from Converse-Lhuillier and Nelson Asaytono from Magnolia, reinforcing the squad. The team won their first championship in the 1987 First Conference. Alvin Dale Vergara Patrimonio (born November 17, 1966) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player from the Philippine Basketball Association and is the current team manager for the Magnolia Hotshots. Patrimonio holds several PBA records including most consecutive games played (596); third most points scored in history (15,091); fourth most rebounds grabbed in history (more than 6,000) and second-most PBA Most Valuable Player awards (4, tied with Ramon Fernandez). Tanduay Rhum Masters
The Tanduay Rhum Makers (1975-1987) and Tanduay Rhum Masters (1999-2001) were two basketball franchises associated with the same liquor brand that played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). The original franchise, owned by Elizalde & Co., Inc., was a founding member of the PBA. From 1975-1980, the team played under the name Tanduay Distillery; Tanduay ESQ and Tanduay Esquires; then as, YCO-Tanduay in 1981-1983. The final name used by the original franchise was the Tanduay Rhum Makers (1983-1987). The original franchise won a total of three PBA championships. In 1988, its PBA franchise was acquired by Pure Foods Corporation and played as Purefoods. The second franchise played under the name Tanduay Rhum Masters and was owned by Tanduay Distillers, Inc. The YCO Painters were the multi-titled Filipino basketball team of the YCO Athletic Club that was active from the late 1940s to 1981 in the now-defunct Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA). YCO Athletic Club was founded by businessman and sportsman Manuel “Manolo” Elizalde and owned under his company Elizalde & Co., Inc., manufacturers of YCO floor wax and paints. The Painters were known as the first basketball dynasty in the Philippines, having dominated MICAA and BAP tournaments during the 1950s to early 1960s. The team's most famous player was Carlos Loyzaga, considered as the greatest Filipino basketball player of his time.
