Yüreğir Municipality
Yüreğir is a district-municipality in the Adana Province of Turkey. It is the second most populated district of the province with a population of over 400,000, mostly concentrated on the east side of the Seyhan river, within the city of Adana. Etymology Yüreğir tribe is a branch the Oğuz Turks, from whom most of the Anatolian Turks are descended. History Yüreğir tribe was the first Turkish tribe to settle in Cilicia starting from 1352. They came to the area in flight from Mongol invasions of their homelands in central Asia. They founded villages, at today's Yüreğir district. Adana was subsequently settled and resettled by many other peoples including other Turkish dynasties but they were first and the name was given to the area in their memory much later (in the early 20th century). Democratic Society Party
The Democratic Society Party ( tr, Demokratik Toplum Partisi, DTP, Kurdish: ''Partiya Civaka Demokratîk'', PCD) was a Kurdish nationalist political party in Turkey. The party considered itself social-democratic and had observer status in the Socialist International. It was considered to be the successor of the Democratic People's Party (DEHAP). The party was established in 2005 and succeeded in getting elected more than ninety mayors in the municipal elections of 2009. On 11 December 2009, the Constitutional Court of Turkey banned the DTP, ruling that the party has become "focal point of activities against the indivisible unity of the state, the country and the nation". Çukurova University
Çukurova University ( tr, Çukurova Üniversitesi) is a public university in Adana, Turkey. The university has sixteen faculties, three colleges, seven vocational colleges, three institutes and twenty six research and application centers. The university campus is located away from Adana city center, by the Seyhan Dam Lake. The university, with its 1903 teaching staff, offers courses to over 40,000 undergraduate, post graduate and doctorate students. The library has internet access and houses national and international publications. Computer rooms are available for student use campus-wide. Adana Metro ( tr, Adana metrosu) is a rail rapid transit system extending along a north–south corridor through Adana, with 13 stations. It can transport 21,600 passengers per hour per direction. The total travel time on the metro, end to end, takes 21 minutes, including all stops. History The rapid transit system for Adana was initiated in 1988 after requests from the mayor Aytaç Durak and the Çukurova University rector Mithat Özsan to the Ministry of Transportation. State Road D400 (Turkey)
D.400 is an east–west state road in southern Turkey. The road starts at Datça in the southwest corner of the Anatolian peninsula. The road ends at the Iranian border at Esendere. D.400 runs through the cities of Marmaris, Fethiye, Antalya, Alanya, Mersin, Adana, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, and Hakkâri and links to Road 16 in Iran. Muhtar (title)
A muhtar is the elected village head in villages of Turkey. In cities, likewise, each neighbourhood has a muhtar but with a slightly different status. Muhtars and their village councils ( tr, Azalar or Ä°htiyar heyeti) are elected during local elections for five years. However, political parties are not permitted to nominate candidates for these posts. Rural muhtars In each village, the muhtar is the highest elected authority of the village. (There is no mayor in a village.) According to the Village Law, tasks of the muhtars are in two groups: compulsory tasks are about public health, primary school education, security and notification of public announcements, etc. Noncompulsory tasks depend on the demands of village residents. is an Arabic word variously translated as district, quarter, ward, or " neighborhood" in many parts of the Arab world, the Balkans, Western Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and nearby nations.
