Yvonne Elliman
Yvonne Marianne Elliman (born December 29, 1951) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress who performed for four years in the first cast of the stage musical ''Jesus Christ Superstar''. She scored a number of hits in the 1970s and achieved a US #1 hit with "If I Can't Have You (Bee Gees song), If I Can't Have You". The song also reached #9 on the Adult Contemporary chart and number 4 in the UK Chart. Her cover of Barbara Lewis's "Hello Stranger" went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and "Love Me (Bee Gees song), Love Me" was also #5, giving her 3 top 10 singles. After a long hiatus in the 1980s and 1990s, during which time she dedicated herself to her family, she made a comeback album as a singer-songwriter in 2004. "Love Me" is a song recorded by the Bee Gees, released on the 1976 album ''Children of the World''. It was also included on the compilation albums Bee Gees Greatest and ''Love from the Bee Gees,'' which was released only in the UK. Background It was written by Barry Gibb, Barry and Robin Gibb featuring Robin on lead with his vibrato (with Barry on the middle eight evidenced on the outro). This makes this song a curio among the group's latterday tracks, as during the mid and late 1970s, Barry sang most of the group's leads. Robin sings a falsetto lead on the group's 1979 song "Living Together" on the album ''Spirits Having Flown''. Eric Patrick Clapton (born 1945) is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is often regarded as one of the most successful and influential guitarists in rock music. "Hello Stranger" is a 1963 hit single by Barbara Lewis, which spent two weeks at number one on the R&B singles chart in ''Billboard'', crossing over to #3 on the pop chart. Original version "Hello Stranger" was written by Barbara Lewis herself, who was originally inspired to write a song with that title while working gigs in Detroit with her musician father: “I would make the circuit with my dad and people would yell out: ‘Hey stranger, hello stranger, it’s been a long time’". The song is notable because its title comprises the first two words of the lyrics but is never at any point repeated throughout the rest of the song.
