Yusuke Hagihara
was a Japanese astronomer noted for his contributions to celestial mechanics. Life and work Hagihara graduated from Tokyo Imperial University with a degree in astronomy in 1921 and became an assistant professor of astronomy there two years later. In 1923 the Japanese government sent him abroad as a traveling scholar. Hagihara went to Cambridge University in England to study differential equations under the mathematician Henry Frederick Baker and relativity alongside Paul Dirac under the astrophysicist Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington. He was a visiting scholar in France, Germany, and the United States. He returned to Japan in 1925 but left for the United States three years later to study the topology of dynamical systems at Harvard University under George David Birkhoff on a Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship. Yoshio Fujita
Yoshio Fujita (''藤田 良雄'', 28 September 1908 – 13 January 2013) was a Japanese astronomer known for his contributions on spectroscopic observations of low temperature stars. He also served as president of the Japan Academy from April 1994 to April 2000. Early life and education Yoshio Fujita was born the oldest of five children in Mikuni in the Fukui Prefecture. His father was a writer and editor at a local newspaper and proficient in the Japanese poetry style of Waka. He described in an oral history interview that his early interest in the cosmos as coming from the constellations he could view from his home city: "My country is called snow country. In general relativity, Schwarzschild geodesics describe the motion of test particles in the gravitational field of a central fixed mass M, that is, motion in the Schwarzschild metric. Schwarzschild geodesics have been pivotal in the validation of Einstein's theory of general relativity. For example, they provide accurate predictions of the anomalous precession of the planets in the Solar System and of the deflection of light by gravity. Schwarzschild geodesics pertain only to the motion of particles of masses so small they contribute little to the gravitational field. However, they are highly accurate in many astrophysical scenarios provided that m is many-fold smaller than the central mass M, e.g., for planets orbiting their sun.
