Yusuf Haji Nur
Yusuf Haji Nur ( so, Yuusuf Xaaji Nuur, ar, يوسف حاجي نور; died 23 June 2019) was a Somali politician and lawyer. He was Chief Justice of Puntland. On 1 July 2001, he declared himself acting President of Puntland after the end of the presidential term of Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed. However, the former President rejected Yusuf Haji's claim and insisted that he was the legitimate President, which led to a two-year civil war in Puntland. Yusuf served as interim President until 14 November 2001. He later became an independent lawyer and headed PARA LEGAL, a law firm for people who couldn't afford to pay for legal proceedings. On 16 August 2016, Puntland President Abdiweli Mohamed Ali appointed Nur as Chief Justice of the Puntland Supreme Court. Prior to this, Nur held this position under Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed. Mustafa Haji Abdinur is a Somali journalist and radio correspondent. He was awarded a CPJ International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists in 2009. Early life and education Abdinur was born into a working-class family in the city of Baidoa, a small town south-west of Mogadishu. His father, who worked for the government, moved to Saudi Arabia in 1987, three years before the Somali civil war broke out. Several years after the collapse of the Somali military regime, Abdinur's family moved to Mogadishu. There, Abdinur completed his high school education. In 1995, he returned to Baidoa, where he studied English. Career In Baidoa Abdinur began to teach English in Baidoa, at the same institute where he had studied. Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed
Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed ( so, Cabdulaahi Yuusuf Axmed, ar, عبدالله يوسف أحمد; 15 December 1934 – 23 March 2012) was a Somali politician and former colonel in the Somali National Army. He was one of the founders of the Somali Salvation Democratic Front, as well as the Puntland State of Somalia, the latter of which he served as the first president. In 2004, Ahmed also helped establish the Transitional Federal Government, which he led as President of Somalia from 2004 until 2008. Personal life Abdullahi Yusuf was born on 15 December 1934 in Galkayo, situated in the north-central Mudug region of Somalia. The city was at the time part of Italian Somaliland. His family hailed from the Omar Mahmoud sub clan of the larger Majeerteen Harti Darod clan. For his post-secondary education, Ahmed studied law at the Somali National University in Mogadishu.
