Yunta
Yunta is a town and locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the state's east about north-east of the state capital of Adelaide. It is a service centre supporting both the local area and travellers passing through on the Barrier Highway. It lies south west of Broken Hill and north east of Peterborough. History Yanta was an early spelling. In 1866 the district was known as part of the Tattawappa and Yanta Run. Yunta township was established in 1887 after the discovery of gold at the nearby diggings at Teetulpa and Waukaringa, when more than 5,000 miners made their way through here. In the early 1890s the village was a busy railway town on the Adelaide to Broken Hill line. From 1934 Yunta was the base for the famed outback trucking and mail contractor Harry Ding. County of Herbert is a cadastral unit located in the Australian state of South Australia that covers land to the east of the Flinders Ranges about north-east of the town of Peterborough. It was proclaimed in 1877 and named after a prominent man of the time with either a title or a surname containing the name ‘Herbert’. It has been partially divided in the following sub-units of hundreds – Cavenagh, Coglin, Minburra, Nackara, Paratoo and Waroonee. Paratoo, South Australia
Paratoo is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about north-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north-east of the municipal seat in Peterborough. Its boundaries were created on 31 August 2000 for the "long established name" which is derived from the Paratoo Railway Station and ultimately from an Aboriginal word of unknown meaning "given to a property held by Messrs Dare and Mundy circa 1858 (lease no. 1892)." Land was added to its northern side on 26 April 2013 to "prevent the intersect of parcels with the creation of the new locality of Waroonee." Its boundaries coincide with those of the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Paratoo. Barrier Highway
Barrier Highway is a highway in South Australia and New South Wales, and is designated part of route A32. The name of the highway is derived from the Barrier Ranges, an area of moderately high ground in the far west of New South Wales, through which the highway traverses. Route Barrier Highway branches off Horrocks Highway at Giles Corner, between Riverton and Tarlee, and heads northeast, crossing the border into New South Wales and passing through Broken Hill. It continues further east to Wilcannia where it crosses the Darling River, past Cobar to eventually end in Nyngan where it joins the Mitchell Highway. Waukaringa, South Australia
Waukaringa is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about north-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about north of Yunta in the state's Far North region. The name was first used for a town proclaimed on 1 November 1888 and which was formally declared to have ceased to exist on 8 July 1982. Boundaries which include the former town were created for the locality on 29 May 1997 and which are completely surrounded by the locality of Melton Station. The area was initially settled in 1873 with the discovery of gold. In 1890, Waukaringa was estimated to have had a population of 750. The former town of Waukaringa is now a ghost town after being abandoned in the 1950s. Ruins of only a few buildings remain, principally the former Waukaringa Hotel. Oulnina Park, South Australia
Oulnina Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a sheep station in South Australia. It is situated approximately south east of Mannahill and east of Yunta. The property was established some time prior to 1861. In 1862, Henry Lorenzo Sprigg owned the station. Sprigg struck financial problems in 1867 and by 1868 both Oulnina and Wadnaminga Station were put up for sale. The two runs occupied a combined area of and were stocked with a total of 21,800 sheep. The property had a woolshed, huts, yards and 14 wells. The two stations were acquired by Philip Levi and Co. In 1870 the two stations were again sold, along with other properties. By this time Oulnina and Wadnaminga were stocked with 17,000 sheep. The area was struck by a plague of grasshoppers in 1872, causing most available feed for stock to be lost. The Outback Communities Authority (OCA) is a statutory authority in South Australia (SA) created under the ''Outback Communities (Administration and Management) Act 2009''. It has been established to "manage the provision of public services and facilities to outback communities" which are widely dispersed across the Pastoral Unincorporated Area which covers almost 60% of South Australia's land area. Flinders Ranges
The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain range in South Australia, which starts about north of Adelaide. The ranges stretch for over from Port Pirie to Lake Callabonna. The Adnyamathanha people are the Aboriginal group who have inhabited the range for tens of thousands of years. Its most well-known landmark is Wilpena Pound / Ikara, a formation that creates a natural amphitheatre covering and containing the range's highest peak, St Mary Peak ().
