Yuliya Leantsiuk
Yuliya Siarheyevna Leantsiuk ( be, Юлія Сяргееўна Леанцюк; born 31 January 1984 in Pinsk) is a Belarusian track and field athlete who competes in the shot put. Her personal best for the event is . She represented her country at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics and the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. She was a silver medallist at the Summer Universiade and Military World Games in 2007, and a bronze medallist at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Athletics. She was banned for doping in 2008. Career Early career Leantsiuk made her international debut in 2001 at the age of seventeen. Competing at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Athletics, she was the bronze medallist behind Valerie Adams and Michelle Carter. Shortly afterwards she won a gold medal at the 2001 European Youth Olympic Festival, beating Mama Fatty. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics was the fifteenth edition of the international indoor track and field competition, organised by the IAAF. The event was held between 7–9 March 2014 at the Ergo Arena in Sopot, Poland. Preparation Host bidding The IAAF announced on 1 September 2011 that it had received bids from Poland and Croatia to host the championships. Later Zagreb, Croatia withdrew due to lack of funding. On 11 November 2011 at a Council meeting in Monaco, the IAAF announced that Sopot, as the only remaining bidder, would host the championships. Budapest, Hungary had shown interest but eventually did not bid. Venue The Championships were held at the Ergo Arena, opened in 2010, on the border of the cities of Sopot and Gdańsk. The 2006 Spar European Cup (the 27th) took place in Málaga, Spain and attracted over 2000 athletes from 49 countries. The mascot for the 2006 games was "Manolito" the Octopus, it was chosen from the drawings submitted in a contest aimed at Andalusian schoolchildren, the winner was Eva Simancas Rubio, aged 11 from ‘Julio Caro Baroja’. The top two teams for both men and women qualified for the 2006 IAAF World Cup. 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships
The 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships was held in Tampere, Finland from 23 to 27 July 2003. A total of 44 events were contested; 22 by men and 22 by women. Germany had the biggest medal haul with nine golds and a total of 26, closely followed by Russia (also 9 golds but 24 medals in total). Great Britain was third with 17 medals, while Romania was fourth with ten medals. Anna Mikhailovna Avdeyeva (russian: Анна Микайовна Авдеева; also known as Anna Avdeeva, born 6 April 1985 in Orenburg) is a Russian shot putter. She was fifth at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics and improved to fourth at the 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Her personal best throw is 20.07 metres, achieved in July 2009 in Cheboksary. She finished eighth at the 2002 World Junior Championships, won the silver medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships and finished eighth at the 2005 Summer Universiade. Michelle Carter (athlete)
Michelle Denee Carter (born October 12, 1985) is an American shot putter. She is the current American record holder in the event with a distance of set at the 2016 Olympic Games. She was inducted into the Texas Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2018. Career Carter won the 2016 gold medal at the Rio Olympics on the last of her six throws, edging two-time defending champion Valerie Adams of New Zealand. In doing so, Carter became the first United States women's athlete to win the event since the women's competition began at the 1948 Summer Olympic Games in London, and only the second American to win any medal in the event (Earlene Brown, bronze, 1960).
