Yugntruf – Youth for Yiddish () is an organization of young Yiddish-speaking adults that is dedicated to the spread of the Yiddish language through various programs and events. It was founded by David Roskies and Gavi Trunk under the guidance of the late Dr. Mordkhe Schaechter in 1964. Name ''Yugntruf'' () means “call of heyouth” and “call to youth”. It combines the words (, “youth; the young”) and (, “call”, cognate of German ). Translation: “A small comment about the name ''Yugntruf'': Many have asked us what a "truf" is. David G. Roskies (Yiddish: דוד ראָסקיס; born 1948, Montreal) is an internationally recognized Canadian literary scholar, cultural historian and author in the field of Yiddish literature and the culture of Ashkenazi Jews, Eastern European Jewry. He is the Sol and Evelyn Henkind Chair in Yiddish Literature and Culture and Professor of Judaism, Jewish Literature at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Biography Roskies was born in 1948 in Montreal, where his family emigrated in 1940 from Vilnius. His grandmother, Fradl Matz, ran the famous Matz Press in Vilnius, Vilnius, Lithuania, formerly Wilno, Poland, a publishing house that produced prayer books, bibles and popular Yiddish literature. Reisterstown is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Baltimore County, Maryland, Baltimore County, Maryland, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, 2010 census, it had a population of 25,968. Founded by German immigrant John Reister in 1758, Reisterstown is located to the northwest of Baltimore.
