Yugar is a rural locality in the Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Yugar had a population of 385 people. Geography Yugar is in South East Queensland from Brisbane. History The locality takes its name from the Yugar railway station, which in turn was named on 12 January 1917 by the Queensland Railways Department, using a Yuggera language (Yugarabul dialect) word ''yugai'' referring to a type of fern. Parker Provisional School opened on 15 August 1904. On 1 January 1909 it became Parker State School. It closed 9 March 1945. It was at 1826 Mount Samson Road (). The name ''Parker'' refers to the name of the parish. On Sunday 8 June 1913 Ernest Austin raped and murdered 11-year-old Ivy Alexandra Mitchell in bushland near the Parker State School. Queensland Police Museum
Queensland Police Museum collects and exhibits items related to the Queensland Police Service and the history of policing in Queensland, Australia. It was originally established in 1893 as a collection of items for study by police for technical purposes. It was not until 20 May 1979 that it became a museum open to the public. It is currently located at Queensland Police Headquarters at 200 Roma Street, Brisbane. Boggo Road Gaol
Boggo Road Gaol in Brisbane, Australia, was Queensland’s main jail from the 1880s to the 1980s, by which time it had become notorious for poor conditions and rioting. Located on Annerley Road in Dutton Park, an inner southern suburb of Brisbane, it is the only surviving intact gaol in Queensland that reflects penological principles of the 19th century. After closing in 1992, the larger 1960s section was demolished, leaving the heritage listed section (built as a women’s prison in 1905), which is open to the public through guided tours run by Boggo Road Gaol Pty Ltd. Ernest Austin (murderer)
Ernest Austin (1890 – 22 September 1913) was an Australian criminal, notable for being the last person executed in Queensland. Murder of Ivy Mitchell On 8 June 1913, 11-year-old Ivy Mitchell was found raped and murdered at Cedar Creek Road near Samford. Mitchell was the daughter of a farmer, who had been playing at the home of her friend, 7-year-old Mary Frisch, and at dusk Ivy left to go home. The Mitchell family lived away from the Frisch family, and the homes in the rural farming community around Samford were connected by dirt roads. Austin began to stalk the two girls as Frisch escorted Mitchell to the end of the Frisch's drive and said goodbye, and while Mitchell was walking home alone she disappeared. Fern
A fern (Polypodiopsida or Polypodiophyta ) is a member of a group of vascular plants (plants with xylem and phloem) that reproduce via spores and have neither seeds nor flowers. Yaggera Language
Turrbal is an Aboriginal Australian language of Queensland. It is the language of the Turrbal people, who are the traditional owners and custodians of Brisbane. The Turrbal Association uses the Turrbal spelling and prefer this over other spellings of Turrbal such as Turubul, Turrubal, Turrabul, Toorbal, and Tarabul. The four dialects listed in Dixon (2002) are sometimes seen as separate Durubalic languages, especially Jandai and Nunukul; Yagara, Yugarabul, and Turrbul proper are more likely to be considered dialects.
