Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda ( en, Cwm Rhondda Secondary School) is a Welsh-medium secondary school located in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, situated near Porth. History Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda was established in 1988 in response to the growing demand for Welsh-medium education in the area. It remains the only Welsh-medium secondary School in the Rhondda, with around 800 students. Pupils who attend the school come from all over the Rhondda, from five Welsh primary schools: *Llyn-Y-Forwyn ( Ferndale) *Ynyswen (Ynyswen) *Llwyncelyn (Porth) *Bronllwyn (Gelli) *Bodringallt (Ystrad) Cymer was renamed Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda by RCT Council on the 1st of September 2017. Rhondda Cynon Taf (; RCT; also spelt as Rhondda Cynon Taff) is a county borough in the south-east of Wales. Porth ( cy, Y Porth) is a town and a community in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan, Wales. Ferndale ( cy, Glynrhedynog) is a town and community located in the Rhondda Valley in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Neighbouring villages are Blaenllechau, Maerdy and Tylorstown. Ferndale was industrialised in the mid-19th century. The first coal mine shaft was sunk in 1857 and was the first community to be intensively industrialised in the Rhondda Valley. Ynyswen
Ynyswen () is a village in the community of Treorchy, in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Ynyswen consists mostly of housing. It has an industrial estate which was once the site of Burberry's factory, one shop, and the Forest View Medical Centre. The area has several chapels and churches. Tynycoed Chapel, located between Ynyswen and Penycae, was first constructed in 1774, and was rebuilt in 1829. Ynyswen infant's school takes children until the age of 7. From then they must go to a different primary school: usually Penyrenglyn Primary School or Treorchy Primary School. Ystrad (also known as Ystrad Rhondda or Ystrad-Rhondda) is a village and community (and electoral ward) in the Rhondda Fawr valley, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Description As a community and ward Ystrad contains the neighbouring district of Gelli. Ystrad is a former coal mining village which was once housed the most profitable collieries belonging to the Cory brothers.
