Youth Dub
''Youth Dub'' is a bonus disc released in conjunction with Matisyahu's second studio album '' Youth''. Both discs were released on March 7, 2006. ''Youth Dub'' is included with some copies of ''Youth'' and is available as a limited edition, stand-alone album. Producer Bill Laswell made a King Tubby style dub remix of ''Youth'', adding effects and bringing to the fore the music of the backing band Roots Tonic Roots Tonic was the name of the three piece rock-reggae band best known as Matisyahu's backing band during live shows and studio recordings. JDub Records was a non-profit record and event production company that produced Jewish music and cross cultural musical dialogue. JDub, unlike most record labels, derived half its annual income from foundations and individual donors and the other half from record and ticket sales. As a non-profit Jewish organization its stated mission was to "forge vibrant connections to Judaism through music, media and cultural events." ''Youth'' is an album by American reggae singer Matisyahu, which was released on March 7, 2006. It is his second proper studio release, as '' Live at Stubb's'' is a live album. The CD quickly shot to the top of iTunes best sellers list the day it was released (partially because iTunes ran a special promotion for pre-orders). The first single from the album is " King without a Crown", which also appeared on Matisyahu's previous album, '' Live at Stubb's''. However, a different music video was shot for the ''Youth'' version of the song, whereas the version on the ''Stubb's'' concert album was accompanied by a concert video. The album debuted at number four on the ''Billboard'' 200 with over 119,000 copies sold in its first week released. A month later, the album was certified gold by the RIAA. ''No Place to Be'' is an album release from Hasidic reggae artist Matisyahu. The album does not contain any previously unreleased songs, but all of the tracks are remixed or rerecorded versions of old songs. Bill Laswell
William Otis Laswell (born February 12, 1955) is an American bass guitarist, record producer, and record label owner. He has been involved in thousands of recordings with many collaborators from all over the world. His music draws from funk, world music, jazz, dub, and ambient styles. According to music critic Chris Brazier, "Laswell's pet concept is 'collision music' which involves bringing together musicians from wildly divergent but complementary spheres and seeing what comes out." The credo of one record label run by Laswell which typifies much of his work is "Nothing Is True, Everything Is Permitted". Although his bands may be credited under the same name and often feature the same roster of musicians, the styles and themes explored on different albums can vary dramatically. Osbourne Ruddock (28 January 1941 – 6 February 1989), better known as King Tubby, was a Jamaican sound engineer who greatly influenced the development of dub in the 1960s and 1970s. Tubby's innovative studio work, which saw him elevate the role of the mixing engineer to a creative fame previously only reserved for composers and musicians, would prove to be influential across many genres of popular music. He is often cited as the inventor of the concept of the remix that later became ubiquitous in dance and electronic music production. A remix (or reorchestration) is a piece of media which has been altered or contorted from its original state by adding, removing, or changing pieces of the item.
