Your Black Muslim Bakery (YBMB) was an American chain of bakery, bakeries opened by Yusuf Bey in 1968 in Santa Barbara, California, Santa Barbara, California, and relocated to Oakland, California, Oakland in 1971. A power broker (term), power broker at the center of a local community, YBMB was held out as a model of African American economic self-sufficiency. However, it was later linked to widespread physical abuse, physical and sexual abuse, welfare fraud, and murder. After Bey's death in 2003, YBMB fell into debt and declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in October 2006. Murder Of Chauncey Bailey
Chauncey Bailey was an American journalist and the editor-in-chief of '' The Oakland Post''. He was shot dead on a downtown Oakland street on August 2, 2007, the victim of a crime syndicate he was investigating for a story. Bailey's death outraged fellow journalists, who joined together to create the Chauncey Bailey Project dedicated to continuing his work and uncovering the facts of his murder. In June 2011, Yusuf Bey IV, the owner of Your Black Muslim Bakery (YBMB), and his associate Antoine Mackey were convicted of ordering Bailey's murder. Yakub (Nation Of Islam)
In the beliefs of the Nation of Islam (NOI), Yakub (sometimes spelled Yacub or Yaqub) was a black scientist who lived 6,600 years ago and began the creation of the white race. He is said to have done this through a form of selective breeding which is referred to as "grafting", while he was living on the island of Patmos. The Nation of Islam's theology states that Yakub is the biblical Jacob. The story has caused disputes within the NOI during its history. East Oakland is a geographical region of Oakland, California, United States, that stretches between Lake Merritt in the northwest and San Leandro in the southeast. Elijah Muhammad
Elijah Muhammad (born Elijah Robert Poole; October 7, 1897 – February 25, 1975) was an African American religious leader, black separatist, and self-proclaimed Messenger of Allah, who led the Nation of Islam (NOI) from 1934 until his death in 1975. Muhammad was also the teacher and mentor of Malcolm X, Louis Farrakhan, Muhammad Ali, and his own son, Warith Deen Mohammed.
