Letitia Youmans
Letitia Youmans (3 January 1827 – 16 July 1896) was a Canadian school teacher who became an activist for the temperance movement. Youmans founded and served as the first president of the Ontario chapter of the Women's Christian Temperance Union. She also served as editorial writer for the IOGT's ''Temperance Union''. Early life Letitia Creighton was born in 1827 in Baltimore, Upper Canada, near Cobourg. Later in life, she became well known in the Canadian temperance movement. At ten years of age she had an experience which started her on her temperance vocation. Her teacher introduced his students to the dangers of alcohol. He invited them to sign a temperance pledge. A leading Broadway composer of his day, Youmans collaborated with virtually all the greatest lyricists on Broadway: Ira Gershwin, Otto Harbach, Oscar Hammerstein II, Irving Caesar, Anne Caldwell, Leo Robin, Howard Dietz, Clifford Grey, Billy Rose, Edward Eliscu, Edward Heyman, Harold Adamson, Buddy DeSylva and Gus Kahn. Floyd Everett Youmans (born May 11, 1964) is a former professional baseball pitcher. He pitched all or part of five seasons in Major League Baseball from 1985–89. He is one of the players dealt by the New York Mets to the Montreal Expos for Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter. Career New York Mets Youmans was born in Tampa, Florida, and was a childhood friend and Hillsborough High School teammate of former Mets pitcher Dwight Gooden before moving with his family to Fontana, California. Eliza Ann Youmans
Eliza Ann Youmans (born in Greenfield, New York, 17 December 1826; died in Winona, Minnesota, 27 September 1914) wrote books, mainly on botanical subjects. Biography She was the daughter of Vincent Youmans and Catherine (Scofield) Youmans. Her brother Edward L. Youmans suffered from an eye ailment, and she read to him and performed chemistry experiments in order to assist him in his studies of chemistry. To further her usefulness as a tutor, in 1843 she attended classes in chemistry given by William Mather in Fairfield, New York. Later in New York City, with the same purpose in mind, she studied agricultural chemistry in the laboratory of Thomas Antisell. LeRoy Franklin Youmans (November 14, 1834 - 1906) was a lawyer, state representative, officer in a mounted riflemen unit of the Confederate Army, U.S. Attorney, South Carolina Attorney General, and state supreme court judge who lived in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in Beaufort County, South Carolina. He graduated from South Carolina University in 1852. Youmans was appointed U.S. Attorney by president Grover Cleveland. Youmans served as South Carolina Attorney General from 1877 to 1882 and from 1905 to 1906. Charlotte Youmans
Charlotte Beatrice Youmans (14 April 1869 – 12 June 1957) was a New Zealand painter of landscapes, interiors, and floral still lifes. Biography Youmans was born in Wellington on 14 April 1869. She was exhibiting by the mid 1890s and continued to do so through the 1920s. She exhibited at the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Auckland Society of Arts, and elsewhere. Some of her work is in the collection of the National Library of New Zealand, including a watercolor of the interior of what is now known as Old St. Paul's in Wellington. Youmans died on 12 June 1957 and her ashes were buried at Karori Cemetery. The artist Arthur Gordon Tovey was her nephew. Maurice Edward Youmans (born October 16, 1936 in Eagle Bay, New York) is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. He played college football at Syracuse University. Early years Youmans attended North Syracuse High School, where he initially focused on playing basketball and averaged 20 points a game.
