The song was released through Darkroom and Interscope Records on April 1, 2022, as the fourth single from the former's second studio album ''Alive''. Background and composition "You Were Loved" was written and produced by Gryffin and OneRepublic band members Ryan Tedder and Brent Kutzle. The song's lyrics describe remembrance of a love that could have been something bigger while also stating optimism in a future relationship. Dan Griffith (born September 29, 1987), known by his stage name Gryffin (often stylized in all caps), is an American musician, DJ, songwriter, and record producer. He gained recognition for remixing some well-known songs such as Tove Lo's "Talking Body", Maroon 5's "Animals" and Years & Years' "Desire". Zachary Douglas Filkins (born September 15, 1978) is an American musician, actor and songwriter. He is a guitarist for the pop rock band OneRepublic. Biography Early life A significant part of Filkins's childhood was spent intensely studying classical guitar in Barcelona, Spain. He attended Colorado Springs Christian High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he played for the school Association football, soccer team. OneRepublic is an American pop rock band formed in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 2002. It consists of lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Tedder, lead guitarist and violist Zach Filkins, rhythm guitarist Drew Brown, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle, drummer Eddie Fisher and keyboardist and violinist Brian Willett. Andrew John Brown (born January 9, 1984) is an American musician, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter. He is a guitarist in the bands OneRepublic and Debate Team.
