You Can Count On Me (Luv Bug Song)
Ireland was present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1986, held in Bergen, Norway. Before Eurovision ''National Song Contest 1986'' The final was held on 30 March 1986 at the Radio Telefís Éireann Studios in Dublin, and was hosted by radio and television presenter Mike Murphy. Eleven regional juries across Ireland selected the winning song, "You Can Count on Me", performed by the group Luv Bug and composed by Kevin Sheerin. At Eurovision Luv Bug performed twelfth on the night of the contest, following Israel and preceding Belgium. At the close of the voting the song had received 96 points, placing 4th in a field of 20 competing countries. This high placing was the third of five straight top ten finishes, and was the run-up to Ireland's win in Brussels the next year. Luv Bug
Luv Bug are a Northern Irish pop band originating from Newry. They are most famous for representing Ireland in the ''Eurovision Song Contest'' in 1986 with the song " You Can Count on Me". Career The earliest incarnation of the group were formed as an amateur teenage band in early 1977. Playing local gigs they were then taken on by manager Michael Magill and went professional in late 1982 and consisted of sister and brothers June (lead vocals), Hugh (bass) and Max (guitar) Cunningham along with Ricky Meyler (vocals and keyboards) and Majella Grant (drums). They became successful as a live act throughout Ireland and released their first single "Red Light Spells Danger" in 1984. The song was a cover of the Billy Ocean track and was followed up by a string of their own compositions, many of which became hits on the Irish Charts. Michael James Murphy (born 20 October 1941) is an Irish broadcaster, actor and property developer. He is best known for his long broadcasting career with RTÉ, presenting many TV shows such as ''The Live Mike'', ''Winning Streak'' and '' The Big Interview''. Early life Murphy was born in Dublin on 20 October 1941. He was the eldest of five children born to Ned and Kitty Murphy. Loudest Whisper are an Irish folk rock/ progressive folk group formed in the early 1970s and led by songwriter and guitarist Brian O'Reilly. They are best known for their 1974 debut album, '' The Children of Lir'', a folk opera based on the Irish legend of the same name.
