Yosef Azran (Coach)
Yosef Azran ( he, יוסף עזרן, 19 October 1941 – 10 February 2010) was an Israeli rabbi and politician who served as a member of the Knesset between 1988 and 1996, and as Deputy Minister of Finance from 1990 until 1992. Biography Born in Marrakech, Morocco in 1941, Azran made aliyah to Israel in 1957. He studied at a yeshiva after high school, and was ordained as a rabbi at the Harry Fischel Institute. He worked as a rabbi in a neighbourhood in Jerusalem, as director of a boarding school in Strasbourg in France, as director of the Torah Institution in Ashdod, before becoming the chief rabbi of Kiryat Malakhi and later Rishon LeZion. Marrakech
Marrakesh or Marrakech ( or ; ar, مراكش, murrākuš, ; ber, ⵎⵕⵕⴰⴽⵛ, translit=mṛṛakc}) is the fourth largest city in the Kingdom of Morocco. It is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco and is the capital of the Marrakesh-Safi region. The city is situated west of the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Marrakesh is southwest of Tangier, southwest of the Moroccan capital of Rabat, south of Casablanca, and northeast of Agadir. The region has been inhabited by Berber farmers since Neolithic times. The city was founded in 1070 by Emir Abu Bakr ibn Umar as the imperial capital of the Almoravid dynasty, Almoravid Empire. The Almoravids established the first major structures in the city and shaped its layout for centuries to come. 1996 Israeli Legislative Election
General elections were held in Israel on 29 May 1996. For the first time, the prime minister was elected on a separate ballot from the remaining members of the Knesset. The elections for Prime Minister resulted in a surprise victory for Benjamin Netanyahu, by a margin of 29,457 votes, less than 1% of the total number of votes cast, and much smaller than the number of spoiled votes. This came after the initial exit polls had predicted a Shimon Peres win, spawning the phrase "went to sleep with Peres, woke up with Netanyahu". Although Peres lost the prime ministerial vote – his fourth and last defeat as Labor leader – Labor emerged as the largest party in the Knesset, winning two more seats than the Likud– Gesher–Tzomet alliance.
