Yorkton—Melville
Yorkton—Melville is a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1968. Geography The district is in east-central Saskatchewan. History The electoral district was created in 1966 from Yorkton, Melville and Mackenzie ridings. In 2006, 30.2% of the population of the Yorkton—Melville constituency were of Ukrainian ethnic origin, the highest such percentage in Canada. Also during the 2006 election, the Yorkton—Melville riding had the highest percentage of eligible voters over the age of 65, and highest average age of all the then-308 federal electoral districts. This riding lost a fraction of territory to Regina—Qu'Appelle and gained territory from Saskatoon—Humboldt and a fraction from Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River during the 2012 electoral redistribution. Cathay Wagantall
Cathay Wagantall (née Cathy Caswell; born March 7, 1956) is a Canadian politician who was elected as a Member of Parliament in the House of Commons of Canada to represent the federal electoral riding of Yorkton—Melville during the 2015 Canadian federal election. Biography Originally from Regina, Wagantall was raised in southern Saskatchewan until she moved with her parents and six siblings to Esterhazy in 1967. On full scholarship, she completed three of four years of her Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with top honours at the University of Saskatchewan. During her summers, she worked in hospitals and level 4 care homes. After traveling the world for a couple of years, Wagantall and her husband entered into a partnership in a lumberyard and contracting business in Springside. The federal electoral redistribution of 2012 was a redistribution of electoral districts ("ridings") in Canada following the results of the 2011 Canadian census. As a result of amendments to the Constitution Act, 1867, the number of seats in the House of Commons of Canada increased from 308 to 338. The previous electoral redistribution was in 2003. Melville is a small city in the east-central portion of Saskatchewan, Canada. The city is northeast of the provincial capital of Regina and southwest of Yorkton. Melville is bordered by the rural municipalities of Cana No. 214 and Stanley No. 215. Its population at the 2016 census was 4,562, making it Saskatchewan's smallest city. Saskatoon—Humboldt was a federal electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1968 to 1979, and from 1988 to 2015. Geography The riding consisted of the northeastern quadrant of Saskatoon and the city of Humboldt and the rural towns of Naicam, Wakaw and Watson. Mackenzie was a federal electoral district (Canada), electoral district in Saskatchewan, Canada, that was represented in the House of Commons of Canada from 1904 to 1997. This riding was created in 1903, when Saskatchewan was still a part of the Northwest Territories. In 1905, when Saskatchewan was created, the district was retained in the province. Rama ( 2016 population: ) is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Rural Municipality of Invermay No. 305 and Census Division No. 9. It is located 44 km west of Canora and 60 km east of Wadena at the intersection of Highway 5 and Highway 754. Rama is on the banks of a tributary of Spirit Creek, which is a tributary of the Whitesand River. The Spirit Creek Dam and its reservoir are located just east of the Village. Canora, Saskatchewan
Canora is a town, located at the junction of highways No. 5 and 9 in east central Saskatchewan, about 50 km north of Yorkton. It is centrally located on the corners of four adjacent rural municipalities, including the RM of Good Lake. The community is home to approximately 3,500 residents and is part of the Canora-Pelly electoral district. The community was founded along the Canadian Northern Railway tracks - one of the companies that evolved into the Canadian National Railway (CN), and two CN freight lines (one east-west branch line to Saskatoon and one line going north) still run through Canora. Esterhazy, Saskatchewan
Esterhazy is a town in the south-eastern part of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, south-east of Yorkton along Highways 22 and 80. The town is in the Rural Municipality of Fertile Belt No. 183. History Esterhazy is reputed to be named for Count Paul Otto d'Esterhazy, an immigrant agent who was christened Johannes Packh, but at age 35 claimed he had "incontrovertible proof" that he was a Hungarian aristocrat of the Esterházy family. This claim was never recognized by the Esterházy family, one of the wealthiest families in Hungary. A year after making his claim, he immigrated to Saskatchewan, south of the current location of the town of Esterhazy, and in 1886 helped settle 35 Hungarian families, founding the colony of Kaposvar, named after the Hungarian city Kaposvár.
