Yorkton Film Festival (YFF) is an annual film festival held in late May in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 1947, the Yorkton Film Council (YFC) was founded and in 1950 the first international documentary film festival officially opened in western Canada on 11 October. The festival originally was named Yorkton International Documentary Film Festival and latter become known as Yorkton International Film Festival. In 1969, the Yorkton Film Council disbanded and the Yorkton International Film Festival Society was formed. The film festival went through several name changes and currently operates as Yorkton Film Festival. It is known as the longest running film festival held in North America. The festival is open to Canadian productions, or international productions directed by Canadians, and focuses on films that are under 60 minutes in length. ''Blowhard'' is a Canadian animated short film, directed by Brad Caslor and Christopher Hinton for the National Film Board of Canada in 1978. A satire of capitalism, the film centres on a businessman who moves to Blowhard, a town populated by dragons but without electrical power, and formulates a plan to profit and become rich by exploiting the dragons as a power source.William Beard and Jerry White, ''North of Everything: English-Canadian Cinema Since 1980''. It is based on Jean Giono's 1953 short story ''The Man Who Planted Trees''. This 30-minute film was distributed in two versions, French and English, narrated respectively by actors Philippe Noiret and Christopher Plummer, and produced by Radio-Canada. Awards The film won the Academy Award (1988) for Best Animated Short Film. It also competed for the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival. The film won the Golden Sheaf Award for Best Animation at the 1988 Yorkton Film Festival.
