Yorkshire Island
Yorkshire Island is a small island in the east end of Lake Ontario, off Prince Edward County. It is part of a chain of islands, including Stoney Island, Galloo Island, Main Duck Island, and Swetman Island and Timber Island, the False Duck Islands. It was acquired by Parks Canada, in 1977, to preserve as nature preserves. Main Duck Island is the closest island in the chain, approximately east. Joseph O. Doyle was shipwrecked on the Island, for 18 days, in 1858. Lake Ontario
Lake Ontario is one of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded on the north, west, and southwest by the Canadian province of Ontario, and on the south and east by the U.S. state of New York. The Canada–United States border spans the centre of the lake. The Canadian cities of Toronto, Kingston, Mississauga, and Hamilton are located on the lake's northern and western shorelines, while the American city of Rochester is located on the south shore. In the Huron language, the name means "great lake". Its primary inlet is the Niagara River from Lake Erie. The last in the Great Lakes chain, Lake Ontario serves as the outlet to the Atlantic Ocean via the Saint Lawrence River, comprising the eastern end of the Saint Lawrence Seaway. Timber Island
Timber Island is a island in the east end of Lake Ontario, off Prince Edward County, Canada. It is part of a chain of islands and shoals, including Stoney Island, Galloo Island, Main Duck Island, Yorkshire Island and Swetman Island. Timber Island and Swetman Island, and their nearby shoals, are known as the False Duck Islands. The island used to be home to bald eagles. The island was donated to the province by its owner, Barbara Cody, in 1962. The island is currently part of the Sandbanks Provincial Park, visitors are allowed, after getting the permission of the park superintendent. Most of the island is covered by an oak-hickory forest. Plants rare to eastern Ontario are found on the island. The island provides a resting spot for birds on their annual migration.
