York Yeomen
The York Lions is the official name for the athletic varsity teams that represent York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The university's varsity teams compete in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports and, where applicable, in the east division. The Lion's logo features a red lion from the school's logo with the university's colours, red and white. York's former teams were known as the York Yeomen and York Yeowomen, but changed their name to the gender-neutral Lions in 2003. Warren Craney
Warren Craney is the former head coach for York University's football team, the York Lions, a position he has held since the 2010. He has also been a coach for the Canada national football junior team, winning a gold medal as the team's defensive coordinator in 2012 and winning the championship as the team's head coach in 2016. U Sports women's soccer is the highest level of play at the university level under the auspices of U Sports, Canada's governing body for university sports. As of the 2021 season, 53 teams from Canadian universities are divided into four conferences, drawing from the four conferences of U Sports: Canada West, Ontario University Athletics, Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec, and Atlantic University Sport. After interconference playoffs have been played, eight teams compete for the Gladys Bean Memorial Trophy, awarded to the U Sports women's soccer championship winner. Alon Badat
Alon Badat (born December 3, 1989) is an Israeli footballer who plays with FC Ukraine United in the Canadian Soccer League. He played college soccer for York University, with whom he was a U Sports Championship All Star, the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) West Rookie of the Year, and Bradley University in Illinois. He has also played professional soccer with Ironi Kiryat Ata F.C., the North York Astros, Portugal FC/SC Toronto, Scarborough SC, and Vaughan Azzurri. Carmine Isacco
Carmine Isacco (born September 20, 1970) is a Canadian soccer coach and retired player. He is currently the head coach for the York Lions varsity men's soccer team of the OUA. Playing career College years In 1989, Isacco entered the University of Maryland, College Park where he was a Soccer America Magazine freshman All-American goalkeeper. Over his four seasons with the Terrapins, he was named to the All-ACC first team three times and was the Terrapins team captain as a senior in 1992. He then spent time with the Canadian Olympic Team and competed at the 1993 World University Games. Professional career Isaaco turned professional in 1992 with the Toronto Italia in the National Soccer League. In his first season with the club he was named Goalkeeper of the Year, and was also named a Canadian all-star three times. U Sports Men's Soccer Championship
The U Sports men's soccer championship is a Canadian university soccer tournament which involves the champions from each of Canada's four regional sports conferences. The championship features eight teams in single-elimination matches to determine a national champion. The championship hosts 11 games over four days at a predetermined host venue. The host team is automatically qualified for the tournament, as is each of the conference champions, with additional berths awarded for the remaining spots. The Sam Davidson Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winners. The UBC Thunderbirds have won the most championships with 13. The 2020 championship tournament was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dan Church
Dan Church (born May 14, 1973) is a Canadian ice hockey coach and executive. He was head coach of the Canadian national women's hockey team, which won the gold medal at the 2012 IIHF Women's World Championship. He is also the head coach for the York Lions women's ice hockey program. University From 1996 to 2004, Church was the assistant coach for the Toronto Lady Blues ice hockey program. Under his tenure, the Lady Blues claimed one CIAU (now CIS) national championship (2001) and three OUA championships (1998, 2000, 2001). While at the University of Toronto, he was the assistant to Karen Hughes (who was also the National Women’s Team head coach). In 2004, Church was appointed head coach for York University. U Sports women's ice hockey is the highest level of play of women's ice hockey at the university level under the auspices of U Sports, Canada's governing body for university sports. Women's ice hockey has been played in U Sports since the 1997-98 season, when the governing body was known as the Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union, following a long stint of teams only competing in the Ontario University Athletics, OUA. There are 35 teams, all of which are based in Canada, that are divided into four conferences that are eligible to compete for the year-end championship. Queen's Cup (ice Hockey)
The Queen's Cup is a trophy awarded annually to the champion in men's ice hockey of the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports. It has been awarded since 1903 to the champion between Ontario and Quebec universities. It is the second-oldest ice hockey trophy still being awarded, after the Stanley Cup. The QUAA (now named the RSEQ) ceased to operate a university hockey league after the 1986–87 season. The conference's three remaining teams at that point (McGill Redmen, UQTR Patriotes, and Concordia Stingers) joined, and remain, in the OUA conference.
