Yolande Berbers
Yolande Berbers is a Belgian computer scientist whose interests include software engineering, middleware, distributed systems, ubiquitous computing, model-driven architecture, and context awareness. She is a professor of computer science at KU Leuven, vice-dean of the KU Leuven Faculty of Engineering, and president of the Leuven Center on Information and Communication Technology. Middleware is a type of computer software that provides services to software applications beyond those available from the operating system. It can be described as "software glue". Middleware makes it easier for software developers to implement communication and input/output, so they can focus on the specific purpose of their application. A distributed system is a system whose components are located on different networked computers, which communicate and coordinate their actions by passing messages to one another from any system. Distributed computing is a field of computer science that studies distributed systems. The components of a distributed system interact with one another in order to achieve a common goal.
