Yoda Press
Yoda Press is a publishing house in India, with its headquarters located at Shahpur Jat, Siri Fort, New Delhi. History Yoda Press was awarded the Publisher of the Year Prize in 2016 at the Publishing Next Conference, held annually in Goa, India. Yoda Press was founded by Arpita Das in 2004 as a house that would build lists which reflected the non-mainstream, alternative and yet equally vital contemporary reality of the Indian subcontinent. Five Yoda Press titles were cited by the Supreme Court of India during its judgement in 2018 that decriminalised homosexuality in the country. In 2015 the Press signed up for a joint academic imprint with Sage Publishing India, and more recently, Yoda Press has established another joint imprint with Simon & Schuster India for trade books with the Press's characteristic political edge. Shahpur Jat is an urban village in South Delhi, located near Hauz Khas and within one of the ancient capital cities of Delhi, Siri Fort. History When the Siri Fort was abandoned, Jats & Jatavs moved to the Shahpur Jat area, being attracted to the fertile lands. Demography Presently the demography of Shahpur Jat is made up mostly of Jats, Jatav (Tanwar`s) & Brahmins, Baniya and Valmiki are also residents of the village. In 1965, the land was acquired by Central Government to construct Asiad Village. Siri Fort, in the city of New Delhi, was built during the rule of Alauddin Khalji, second ruler of Khalji Dynasty, of Delhi Sultanate to defend the city from the onslaught of the Mongols. Harsh Mander
Harsh Mander (born 17 April 1955) is an Indian author, columnist, researcher, teacher, and social activist who started the Karwan-e-Mohabbat campaign in solidarity with the victims of communal or religiously motivated violence. He is the Director of the Centre for Equity Studies, a research organisation based in New Delhi. He also served as Special Commissioner to the Supreme Court of India in thRight to Food Campaignand was a member of the National Advisory Council of the Government of India, set up under the UPA government. Thomas Roger Trautmann is an American historian, cultural anthropologist, and Professor Emeritus of History and Anthropology at the University of Michigan. He is considered a leading expert on the ''Arthashastra'', the ancient Hindu text on statecraft, economic policy, and military strategy, written in Sanskrit. Trautmann has mentored many students during his tenure at the University of Michigan. His studies focus on ancient India, the history of anthropology, and other related subjects. Trautmann's work in Indology has been credited with illuminating the underlying economic philosophy that governed ancient Indian kinship.
