Ynysybwl Rugby Football Club is a Welsh rugby union team based in Ynysybwl. Ynysybwl RFC plays in the Welsh Rugby Union, Division One East League and is a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues. Ynysbwl RFC was established in 1880. Ynysybwl Club History In the years between 1945 and 1955 Ynysybwl played in the Glamorgan League and Cup with other local clubs such as Pontypridd RFC, Ebbw Vale RFC and Glamorgan Wanderers. Ynysybwl
Ynysybwl ( cy, Ynys-y-bŵl ) is a village in Cwm Clydach in Wales. It is situated in the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, roughly north-north-west of Cardiff, north of Pontypridd and south of Merthyr Tydfil, and forms part of the community of Ynysybwl and Coed-y-Cwm. Cwm Clydach is flanked by the Rhondda and Cynon Valleys. The market town of Pontypridd lies to the south at the meeting point of the three valleys; and to the north lies the large Llanwynno forestry. Before the local government reforms of 1996 Ynysybwl was in the Cynon Valley district of Morgannwg Ganol, and the area is historically a part of Glamorgan (Morgannwg). Name There is uncertainty over the meaning of the name of the village. ''Ynys'' means 'island' or 'river meadow' in Welsh and probably refers to such a meadow on the banks of the Clydach stream. WRU Division One East
The Welsh Rugby Union Specsavers Division One East is a rugby union league in Wales. It was 'born' out of a restructure of the former league system that had formally begun in Wales for the 1990/91 season. As a result of the restructure of 2006, the WRU decided to divide the then Division One into two leagues, East and West, and Division 1 East was implemented and became a regular part of the fixture list. In 2014, another restructure of Welsh Rugby's league system saw more changes within the Division One tier. This introduced an additional 2 leagues at this level bringing the total number of Division 1 leagues up to 4. Stephen Thomas "Staff" Jones, (born 4 January 1959) is a former Wales rugby union international from Ynysybwl. A Loosehead prop forward product of Ynysybwl RFC, he briefly played for Pontypridd RFC before making 408 appearances for Pontypool RFC in their glory years in the 1980s, often in partnership with Steve Jones and Graham Price to form another formidable front row partnership coached by Ray Prosser.
