Yitzhak Gershon
Major General (Res.) Yitzhak Gershon has more than 32 years of distinguished military experience. Gen. Gershon commanded top combat units in the Israel Defense Forces, with much of his service on the front lines in Lebanon and Judea/Samaria. Gen. Gershon coordinated numerous special operations during the first Lebanon War and the “Defensive Shield” operation during the second Intifada, and led the Home Front Command in the second Lebanon war. Military service Gershon was drafted into the IDF in 1977. He volunteered to Sayeret Shaked. He served as a soldier and a squad leader and fought in Operation Litani. Later on he became an infantry officer after completing Officer Candidate School and returned to the Paratroopers Brigade as a platoon leader in the 890 "Efe" (Echis) paratroop battalion. Special forces units in the Israel Defense Forces encompass a broad definition of specialist units. Such units are usually a regiment or a battalion in strength. Sayeret ( he, סיירת, pl.: ''sayarot''), or ''reconnaissance'' units in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) nomenclature, specialize in intelligence gathering and surveillance. Ynet (stylized as ynet) is one of the major Israeli news and general-content websites, and is the online outlet for the '' Yedioth Ahronot'' newspaper. However, most of Ynet's content is original work, published exclusively on the website and written by an independent staff. Operation Defensive Shield
Operation "Defensive Shield" ( he, מִבְצָע חוֹמַת מָגֵן, ''Mivtza Homat Magen'', literally "Operation Shield Wall") was a large-scale military operation conducted by the Israel Defense Forces in 2002 during the Second Intifada. It was the largest military operation in the West Bank since the 1967 Six-Day War. The stated goal of the operation was to stop terrorist attacks. The operation was a direct response to the Passover massacre on March 27 at the Park Hotel in the Israeli resort city of Netanya when a Palestinian suicide bomber killed 30 vacationers. Operation Law and Order was an Israeli military operation against a Hezbollah base in the village of Maydoun. Background On April 26, 1988, a Hezbollah infiltration attempt at Har Dov ended in a battle during which an Israeli officer, Lieutenant Colonel Shmuel Adiv, a battalion commander in the Givati Brigade, was killed along with the entire Hezbollah cell. Company Commander
A company commander is the commanding officer of a company, a military unit which typically consists of 100 to 250 soldiers, often organized into three or four smaller units called platoons. The exact organization of a company varies by country, service, and unit type. An officer candidate school (OCS) is a military school which trains civilians and Enlisted rank, enlisted personnel in order for them to gain a Commission (document), commission as Commissioned officer, officers in the armed forces of a country. How OCS is run differs between countries and services. Typically, officer candidates have already attained post-secondary education, and sometimes a bachelor's degree, and undergo a short duration of training (not more than a year) which focuses primarily on military skills and leadership.
