Yio Chu Kang Secondary School
Yio Chu Kang Secondary School is a co-educational government school in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. It was first opened in 1966, and moved to its current site in 1982. History Yio Chu Kang Secondary began operations in 1966, and was set up in response to a request by Yio Chu Kang residents to Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew for a secondary school. It was initially located at the tenth milestone of Yio Chu Kang Road, housed in a S$444,000 campus. In 1982, the school moved to new premises along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 and the new premises were officially opened on 26 August 1983 by Lau Ping Sum, Member of Parliament for Yio Chu Kang. Merger with Chong Boon Secondary School In January 2018, the school merged with former Chong Boon Secondary School. The merged school is located at the current Yio Chu Kang campus. Ang Mo Kio is a planning area and residential town situated in the North-East of Singapore. Located approximately north of the Downtown Core district, Ang Mo Kio is the 3rd most populated planning area in the North-East Region and ranks 8th in terms of population in the country overall. Yio Chu Kang
Yio Chu Kang is a sub-urban area in the northeast of Singapore, with proximity to the Ang Mo Kio, Lentor, Seletar and Sengkang areas. Deriving its name from the Yio Chu Kang Village, it is still known for lush greenery and low-density housing with high-rise public housing in its southern fringes. Background The name Yio Chu Kang, similar to Choa Chu Kang and Lim Chu Kang did not come from names of famous people unlike many other road names in Singapore. The word 'Kang' - means river, while 'Chu' was apparently a clan. The word 'Chu' itself means "owner" or "land". The clan was hence named Kangchu because it was controlled by the Chu clan and they were situated around a river. Lee Kuan Yew
Lee Kuan Yew (16 September 1923 – 23 March 2015), born Harry Lee Kuan Yew, often referred to by his initials LKY, was a Singaporean lawyer and statesman who served as Prime Minister of Singapore between 1959 and 1990, and Secretary-General of the People's Action Party between 1954 and 1992. Mandopop
Mandopop or Mandapop refers to Standard Chinese, Mandarin popular music. The genre has its origin in the jazz-influenced popular music of 1930s Shanghai known as Shidaiqu; with later influences coming from Japanese enka, Hong Kong's Cantopop, Taiwan's Hokkien pop, and in particular the School campus song, Campus Song folk movement of the 1970s. 'Mandopop' may be used as a general term to describe popular songs performed in Mandarin. Though Mandopop predates Cantopop, the English term was coined around 1980 after "Cantopop" became a popular term for describing popular songs in Cantonese. Shawn Thia (born 7 December 1995) is a Singaporean actor. Early life and career Thia has an older sister. His parents divorced when he was a toddler, and he has not been in contact with his father since secondary school.
