Ying Zhu
Ying Zhu is Professor Emeritus at the City University of New York and Director of the Center for Film and Moving Image Research in the Academy of Film, Hong Kong Baptist University. Career A New York-based expert on Chinese film and media industries, Zhu has published nine books, including ''Soft Power with Chinese Characteristics: China's Campaign for Hearts and Minds'' (Coedited with Stanley Rosen and Kingsley Edney), ''Two Billion Eyes: The Story of China Central Television'' (2014) and ''Art, Politics, and Commerce in Chinese Cinema'' (2010). Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) is a publicly funded tertiary liberal arts education, liberal arts institution with a Christian ethics, Christian education heritage. It was established as Hong Kong Baptist College with the support of American Baptists, who provided both operating and construction funds and personnel to the school in its early years. Cinema Of China
The cinema of China is one of three distinct historical threads of Chinese-language cinema together with the cinema of Hong Kong and the cinema of Taiwan. Cinema was introduced in China in 1896 and the first Chinese film, '' Dingjun Mountain'', was made in 1905. In the early decades the film industry was centered on Shanghai. The 1920s was dominated by small studios and commercial films, especially in the action wuxia genre.
