Yiannakis Omirou
Yiannakis Omirou ( el, Γιαννάκης Ομήρου; born 18 September 1951) is a Greek-Cypriot politician. He was president of the Cypriot parliament from 2011 to 2016 and was leader of political party EDEK between 2001 and 2015. Omirou was born in Paphos Paphos ( el, Πάφος ; tr, Baf) is a coastal city in southwest Cyprus and the capital of Paphos District. The House of Representatives ( el, Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων ; tr, Temsilciler Meclisi) is the national unicameral legislature of the Republic of Cyprus. Members and three observers representing Armenian, Latin, and Maronite Cypriots are elected by proportional representation every five years. 30% of seats are allocated to Turkish Cypriots, but these have been vacant since 1964. The House of Representatives of Cyprus is the only legislature in Europe within a fully presidential system. Elections A general election must be held on the second Sunday of the month immediately preceding the month in which the term of office of the outgoing House expires. 1974 Cypriot Coup D'état
The 1974 Cypriot coup d'état was a military coup d'état sponsored by the Greek Army in Cyprus, the Cypriot National Guard and the Greek junta, Greek military junta. On 15 July 1974 the coup plotters removed the sitting President of Cyprus, Archbishop Makarios III from office and replaced him with the pro-Enosis nationalist Nikos Sampson. The Sampson regime was described as a puppet state, whose ultimate aim was the annexation of the island by Greece; in the short term, the coupists proclaimed the establishment of the "Hellenic Republic of Cyprus". The coup was viewed as illegal by the United Nations. Marios Garoyian
Marios Garoyian ( el, Μάριος Καρογιάν; hy, Մարիոս Կարոյեան; born 31 May 1961) is a Greek Cypriot politician. He served as leader of the Democratic Party from 2006 to 2013. On 06/03/2008, he was elected President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, thereby holding the highest elected post currently held by an Armenian outside of Armenia. Early life Garoyian was born in Nicosia. He studied political science at the University of Perugia. He has one son and one daughter. He speaks Greek, English, Italian and Spanish fluently.
