Yetebon, Ethiopia
Yetebon is a small village in the former Meskanena Mareko Districts of Ethiopia, woreda of Ethiopia. The village is located from Butajira, and is about a two-hour drive south of Addis Ababa, and is south of Addis Ababa. Yetebon is the home of the Gurage, Gurage people who are tradesmen, herdsmen, and farmers. Guraghes live in tukuls, which are circular mud and wattle structures with tall thatched roofs and generally no windows. They stand in small clusters, on the steep mountainsides and in the valleys. Yetebon is the home of Project Mercy, a non-profit organization that not only provides emergency relief aid, but has also expanded its focus to provide educational assistance and support for refugee evangelists. Meskanena Mareko
Meskanena Mareko ("Meskane and Mareko") was one of the 77 woredas in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Gurage Zone, Meskanena Mareko was bordered on the south by Silte, on the southwest by Gumer, on the west by Ezhana Wolene, on the northwest by Kokir Gedebano Gutazer, on the north by Sodo, and on the east by the Oromia Region. Towns in Meskanena Mareko included Butajira and Inseno. Meskanena Mareko was divided for Mareko and Meskane woredas and Butajira town. Near Butajira are the Tufta Swamps at , located in the Western highlands near the headwaters of the Meki River. Gurage
The Gurage (, Gurage: ጉራጌ) are a Semitic-speaking ethnic group inhabiting Ethiopia.G. W. E. Huntingford, "William A. Project Mercy
Project Mercy, Inc. is a Christian, non profit organization located in Yetebon, Ethiopia, founded in 1977 by Marta Gabre-Tsadick and Deme Tekle-Wold. Over the past 18 years, Project Mercy's original mission has been expanded to include community development and self-help programs. The international ministry of Project Mercy was started to provide emergency relief and relocation assistance to Ethiopian refugees. The ministry has expanded to reach to a number of additional countries including Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Guinea, Iraq, Kenya, Malawi and Sudan. In 1993, the organization shifted its focus to creating a relief and development model that can be used by others to help break the cycle of famine and poverty in communities.
