Yen Hoang
Yen Hoang ( vi, Yến Hoàng; born March 8, 1997) is an American wheelchair racer, who won two medals at the 2019 Parapan American Games. She came second at the 2021 Chicago Marathon and third at the 2021 Boston Marathon, and competed at the delayed 2020 Summer Paralympics. Personal life Yen Hoang was born in Ho Chi Minh City on March 8, 1997, and then moved to the United States with her family when she was three years old. Hoang has cauda equina syndrome, and has used a wheelchair since the age of four. She started playing wheelchair basketball in middle school, and started track and field events at Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Washington. She has played wheelchair basketball at national youth level. Hoang attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign on a sports scholarship, graduating in business and accounting in 2019. The Mastercard New York Mini 10K is an annual 10-kilometer road running competition for women that takes place in Central Park, New York City, in the United States. The race has been organised by New York Road Runners since 1972. The competition has both an elite-level race and a fun run, both of which accounted for a total of 5189 finishers in 2010. The idea of a 10K women's race was the joint vision of elite runners Nina Kuscsik and Kathrine Switzer, and New York City Marathon co-director Fred Lebow – in the early 1970s, there was a dearth of women's road racing competitions. New York Road Runners (NYRR) is a non-profit running organization based in New York City whose mission is to help and inspire people through running. It was founded in 1958 by Ted Corbitt with 47 members and has since grown to a membership of more than 60,000. Susannah Scaroni
Susannah Scaroni (born May 16, 1991) is an American Paralympic athlete. She won the gold medal in the women's 5000 meters T54 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics held in Tokyo, Japan. She also represented the United States at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Early life Scaroni injured her spinal cord at the T12 vertebra in a car accident when she was five years old, and had to use a wheelchair thereafter. Career At the 2012 Summer Paralympics, she finished in 8th place in the women's marathon T54 event. Four years later, she also competed in the same event finishing in 7th place. Wheelchair racing is the racing of wheelchairs in track and road races. Wheelchair racing is open to athletes with any qualifying type of disability, amputees, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy and partially sighted (when combined with another disability). Athletes are classified in accordance with the nature and severity of their disability or combinations of disabilities. Like running, it can take place on a track or as a road race.
