KSK Luch Moscow
KSK Luch Moscow is a Russian women's handball club from Moscow. Founded in 1959 as Trud Moscow, it took its current name in 1966. The team enjoyed its golden era in the 1960s, winning the third edition of the European Cup and five of the seven first editions of the Soviet Championship. Luch gradually declined in subsequent years, making it into the championship's top three for the last time in 1975. Following the break-up of the Soviet Union Luch has played in the Russian Super League. The team has appeared occasionally in European competitions since, with the 1998 Cup Winners' Cup's quarter-finals and the 2001 Challenge Cup's semifinals as its best results. The Russia women's national handball team is the national team of Russia. It is governed by the Handball Union of Russia and took part in international handball competitions. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the International Handball Federation banned Russian and Belarus athletes and officials, and the European Handball Federation suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus as well as Russian and Belarusian clubs competing in European handball competitions. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. The 2015 IHF World Women's Handball Championship, the 22nd event hosted by the International Handball Federation, was held in Denmark. The decision to select Denmark as the host was announced on 27 January 2011. In the final Norway won 31–23 against the Netherlands to gain their third title. Romania won bronze after they defeated Poland 31–22. Venues Venues for the tournament were announced on 7 June 2014. Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning hosted the final, both semi-finals, two quarter-finals, matches in the round of 16 and Denmark's group. The International Handball Federation (IHF) is the administrative and controlling body for handball and beach handball.
