Yeghegis Community ( hy, Եղեգիս Համայնք ''Yeghegis Hamaynk''), is a rural community (municipality) and administrative subdivision of Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia, at the southeast of the country. A municipality in Armenia referred to as community ( hy, համայնք ''hamaynk'', plural: hy, համայնքներ ''hamaynkner''), is an administrative subdivision consisting of a settlement ( hy, բնակավայր ''bnakavayr'') or a group of settlements ( hy, բնակավայրեր ''bnakavayrer'') that enjoys local self-government. The settlements are classified as either towns ( hy, քաղաքներ ''kaghakner'', singular hy, քաղաք ''kaghak'') or villages ( hy, գյուղեր ''gyugher'', singular ( hy, գյուղ ''gyugh''). The administrative centre of a community could either be an urban settlement (town) or a rural settlement (village). Two-thirds of the population are now urbanized. As of 2017, 63.6% of Armenians live in urban areas as compared to 36.4% in rural. Kalasar, Armenia
Kalasar ( hy, Կալասար; az, Qalasar) is an abandoned village in the Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia. It once belonged to the community of Hermon. History The village was populated by Azerbaijanis. In March-April 1989, ethnic clashes and incidents became frequent because of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Yeghegis
Yeghegis ( hy, Եղեգիս) is a village in the Yeghegis Municipality of the Vayots Dzor Province in Armenia. It has a rich historical past, with the medieval Zorats Church, the Tsakhats Kar Monastery and the Smbataberd fortress being located in the vicinity of Yeghegis, as well as a Jewish cemetery from the 13th century. Hors, Armenia
Hors ( hy, Հորս) is a village in the Yeghegis Municipality of the Vayots Dzor Province in Armenia. It is located 24 km northwest of the Province center, on the bank of the right-hand Hors tributary of Selimaget, 6–7 km northwest of the confluence of the Selimaget and Yeghegis rivers. History Hors village was resettled in 1918 by families who immigrated from Metsop or Otsop (now Badamlu) village of Nakhichevan. The village speaks the local dialect of Vayots Dzor and Northern Nakhichevan, the intermediate dialect of Chahuk-Vayk. Contrary to initial assumptions, the village has an older history, which is evidenced by the 13th-century half-ruined "Chesari Darpas" (Gates of Chesar) structure built in the center of the village with ornate sculptures, hewn walls, and the adjacent church complex built with pink stones.
