Mid West (Western Australia)
The Mid West region is one of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is a sparsely populated region extending from the west coast of Western Australia, about north and south of its administrative centre of Geraldton, Western Australia, Geraldton and inland to east of Wiluna, Western Australia, Wiluna in the Gibson Desert. It has a total area of , and a permanent population of about 52,000 people, more than half of those in Geraldton. Earlier names The western portion of this region was known earlier as "The Murchison" based on the Murchison River (Western Australia), river of the same name, and the similarly named Goldfield. Economy The Mid West region has a diversified economy that varies with the geography and climate. Near the coast, annual rainfall of between allows intensive agriculture. Further inland, annual rainfall decreases to less than , and here the economy is dominated by mining of iron ore, gold, nickel and other mineral resources. Geraldton is an imp ...

Swedish Space Corporation
The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) provides space subsystems, space and satellite operations, rocket and balloon systems including experiment equipment, launch services, aerospace engineering services as well as airborne maritime surveillance systems. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries ECAPS and NanoSpace, the SSC is also engaged in the development of propulsion systems and micromechanical systems for space applications. From its facility Esrange Space Center in Northern Sweden, the SSC launches sounding rockets and high-altitude balloons for research in the areas of microgravity, astrophysics, astronomy and atmospheric studies. One notable program during the late 1980s/early 1990s was a joint project with the Society of Japanese Aerospace Companies using SSC's MASER rocket to lift aloft various experiments requiring microgravity environments, at a low cost. This was during a period when U.S. Space Shuttle flights along with associated planned experiments were still being d ...

Yarragadee Station
Yarragadee Station is a pastoral lease that currently operates as a cattle station. It is located about north of Mingenew and south of Mullewa in the Mid West region of Western Australia. The station is located along the Irwin River and occupies an area of . The property was established by Michael Morrissey at some time prior to 1886 and was well known by that time. Francis Pearse, who already owned a store in the area, acquired Yarragadee in 1903, paying £10,600 for it. Yarragadee is near Yatharagga - an area associated with a number of space related tracking systems. DORIS (geodesy)
DORIS is a French satellite system used for the determination of satellite orbits (e.g. TOPEX/Poseidon) and for positioning. The name is an acronym of "Doppler Orbitography and Radiopositioning Integrated by Satellite" or, in French, ''Détermination d'Orbite et Radiopositionnement Intégré par Satellite''. Principle Ground-based radio beacons emit a signal which is picked up by receiving satellites. This is in reverse configuration to other GNSS, in which the transmitters are space-borne and receivers are in majority near the surface of the Earth. A frequency shift of the signal occurs that is caused by the movement of the satellite (Doppler effect). From this observation satellite orbits, ground positions, as well as other parameters can be derived. Organization DORIS is a French system which was initiated and is maintained by the French Space Agency (CNES). It is operated from Toulouse. Ground segment The ground segment includes about 50-60 ground stations, equally di ...

List Of Homesteads In Western Australia
This list includes all homesteads in Western Australia with a gazetted name. Currency This list is complete with respect to the 1996 Gazetteer of Australia.Gazetteer of Australia (1996). Belconnen, ACT: Australian Surveying and Land Information Group. Dubious names have been checked against the online 2004 data, and in all cases confirmed correct. However, if any homesteads have been gazetted or deleted since 1996, this list does not reflect these changes. Strictly speaking, Australian place names are gazetted in capital letters only; the names in this list have been converted to mixed case in accordance with normal capitalisation conventions. Conditions Homesteads do not necessarily equate to current legally constituted pastoral leases as identified by Landgate - some might correlate to stations of the same name, but cannot be taken as specific identifiers of lands considered to be pastoral leases or stations. Considerable numbers of homesteads - although identified and locate ...

Western Australia
Western Australia (commonly abbreviated as WA) is a state of Australia occupying the western percent of the land area of Australia excluding external territories. It is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the north and west, the Southern Ocean to the south, the Northern Territory to the north-east, and South Australia to the south-east. Western Australia is Australia's largest state, with a total land area of . It is the second-largest country subdivision in the world, surpassed only by Russia's Sakha Republic. the state has 2.76 million inhabitants  percent of the national total. The vast majority (92 percent) live in the south-west corner; 79 percent of the population lives in the Perth area, leaving the remainder of the state sparsely populated. The first Europeans to visit Western Australia belonged to the Dutch Dirk Hartog expedition, who visited the Western Australian coast in 1616. The first permanent European colony of Western Australia occurred following the ...

Mingenew, Western Australia
Mingenew is a town in Western Australia, located north of the state capital, Perth. It is the seat of government for the Shire of Mingenew. History Mingenew was named after Mingenew Spring, an Aboriginal word recorded by European settlers in 1856, possibly deriving from either the words ''Minga nu'' "the place of many ants and flies" or ''Mininoo'' "the place of many waters". Mingenew and the surrounding Irwin District were first explored by the brothers Augustus Charles and Francis Thomas Gregory in August 1847, looking for suitable grazing land. Settlement of the district then occurred in the 1850s because it was ideal country for cattle. The Midland railway line opened in August 1891, and private land was subdivided, followed in 1906 by subdivision of government land. In 1906, the town of Mingenew was gazetted. Agriculture Today, the town's economy is based on the farming of sheep, wheat and lupins. Mingenew is known as ''The Grain Centre''. The Mingenew grain f ...

Satellite Laser Ranging
In satellite laser ranging (SLR) a global network of observation stations measures the round trip time of flight of ultrashort pulses of light to satellites equipped with retroreflectors. This provides instantaneous range measurements of millimeter level precision which can be accumulated to provide accurate measurement of orbits and a host of important scientific data. The laser pulse can also be reflected by the surface of a satellite without a retroreflector, which is used for tracking space debris. Satellite laser ranging is a proven geodetic technique with significant potential for important contributions to scientific studies of the earth/atmosphere/ocean system. It is the most accurate technique currently available to determine the geocentric position of an Earth satellite, allowing for the precise calibration of radar altimeters and separation of long-term instrumentation drift from secular changes in ocean topography. Its ability to measure the variations over time in ...
