Yarragon, Victoria
Yarragon is a town in the Shire of Baw Baw in the West Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. The town lies on the Princes Highway and the Gippsland railway line approximately halfway between the major towns of Warragul and Moe. Hills of the Strzelecki Ranges rise over immediately to the south of the town, providing a spectacular backdrop, while the Moe River and the lowlands lie to the north and east. Mount Worth at above sea level is the highest near peak to the south in the Mount Worth State Park SSW of Yarragon. Mount Baw Baw at in the Baw Baw Ranges as part of the Great Dividing Range to the north is approximately NNE of Yarragon. The township sits at approximately above sea level. The Moe River is a perennial river of the West Gippsland catchment, located in the West Gippsland region of the Australian state of Victoria. Triple M Gippsland (official callsign: 3SEA) is a commercial radio station owned and operated by Southern Cross Austereo as part of the Triple M network. The station is broadcast to townships in the Gippsland region of Victoria from studios in Traralgon. The station commenced broadcasting in 2002 as 94.3 Sea FM as a supplementary license to 3GG. Noojee
Noojee is a town in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia, north of Warragul and east of Melbourne, in the Baw Baw local government area. At the 2016 census, Noojee and the surrounding area had a population of 157. The town benefits from tourists passing through to the Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort, 48 kilometres away, as it is the last stop with tourism services. Poowong
Poowong is a small dairying town located in South Gippsland, in the Australian state of Victoria. At the , Poowong had a population of 360. It is from Melbourne and about north-west of Korumburra. The town has an Australian rules football team, the Poowong Magpies, which plays in the Ellinbank & District Football League. History The first application for land in the Parish of Poowong was made on 17 April 1874 by James Scott for 320 acres of allotment 5, the selection made on behalf on his son Robert Scott. Four more selectors pegged out allotments within the next twelve months. On part of the Scott land a store, pub and butcher's shop were built. The Mid Gippsland Football League is an Australian rules football and netball league in the Latrobe Valley and South Gippsland regions of Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. History The Mid Gippsland Football League (MGFL) was founded in April 1935. The MGFL superseded the former Morwell & Yallourn Football League (M&YFL) with the following six clubs moving across to play in this new football competition in 1935 – Boolarra, Brown Coal Mine, Morwell Bridge, Morwell Seconds, Yallourn Imperials and Yinnar. Yarragon Railway Station
Yarragon railway station is a regional railway station on the Gippsland line, part of the Victorian railway network. It serves the town of Yarragon, in Victoria, Australia. Yarragon station is a ground level unstaffed station, featuring two side platforms. It opened on 1 August 1878. Initially opened as Waterloo, the station was given its current name of Yarragon on 17 December 1883. History In 1952, the line between Warragul and Yarragon was duplicated. Strzelecki Ranges
The Strzelecki Ranges ( ) is a set of low mountain ridges located in the West Gippsland and South Gippsland regions of the Australian state of Victoria. The Ranges are named after Paweł Edmund Strzelecki, a Polish explorer, who with the assistance of Charley Tarra the small party's Aboriginal guide, led an expedition through this region in 1840. They also form a biogeographic subregion of the South Eastern Highlands. "Land of the Lyrebird" is also a common alternative name for the Strzelecki Ranges based on a popular 1920s book. Geography The Strzelecki Ranges generally run east-west and extend for roughly 100 km.
