Yarr Radio
Yarr Radio was a British music radio station aimed at a young Asian audience, which broadcast from 2003 until 2008 on digital radio in various regions of the United Kingdom, and on Sky Channel 187. Launched in 2003 by Indo-Canadian singer Jazzy B, it was called 'London's First Young Asian Hit Music Station'. The original presenters of 'Yaar Radio' were: Maya, Ranj Rekhi, Sonia Paneser, Danny Deol, Dee Singh, Kim Boss, Vinny Virdee (aka: Jas Rao or Jas 'The Man'), Ellia Khan (aka: Noreen Khan). The management had a policy of playing only Asian music, consisting of "the latest Bhangra (music), Bhangra and Bollywood music, Bollywood mixes" and "the hottest urban, fusion and R&B". Sunrise Radio Group Limited was a UK radio broadcaster (chairman Avtar Lit), and ran Sunrise Radio. The company also used to own London Media Company Limited. In January 2014, Sunrise Radio Limited, owners of Sunrise Radio 1, Sunrise Radio 3, Time 107.5 and Tristar 96.6, fell into administration, and were acquired for an estimated £2m on 4 February 2014. Stations The company owned and managed the following radio stations: *Sunrise Radio * Asia Broadcasting Corporation (Sri Lanka) - Hiru fm, Sha fm, Sun fm, Gold fm, Sooriyan fm. It also owned 33% of Sunrise Radio Yorkshire Former stations * Punjabi Radio * Yarr Radio * South London Radio 107.3 * Time 106.8 These ceased broadcasting after they were sold on 22 February 2009, but the new buyer could not afford to run the stations. Digital transmission by radio waves includes digital broadcasting, and especially digital audio radio services. Jazzy B
Jaswinder Singh Bains (born 1 April 1975), better known by his stage name Jazzy B is an Indo-Canadian Punjabi singer and songwriter. Early life and career Jazzy B was born in Nawanshahr, Punjab, India. When he was five years old, his family moved to Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. His first album ''Gugiyan Da Jora'' was released in 1993. The rhythm was played by Sukhshinder Shinda who suggested that he move to England if he wanted a prominent career in Punjabi music. He is a big fan of the late singer Kuldeep Manak, which is one of the reasons why Jazzy's album, Maharajas, released in 2011, with Kuldeep's son, Yudhvir, also a singer, is a tribute to Kuldeep Manak, with some of Kuldeep's original vocals retained, and many other songs sung by Jazzy and Yudhvir, are also a tribute to Kuldeep Manak. Bhangra (music)
Bhangra () is a type of non-traditional music of Punjab originating in the Southall area of United Kingdom. It is a type of upbeat popular music associated with the Punjabi diaspora in Britain. The style has its origins in the folk music of Punjab as well as western pop music of the 1970s and 1980s. Prior to this musical fusion, Bhangra existed only as a dance form in the native Punjab. This British music was unique in that it was not traditional nor did it seek any authenticity. While the traditional folk music of Punjab has a set of melodies that are used by various singers, Bhangra was a form of strict "band culture" in that new melodies were composed for each song. Southall () is a large suburban county of West London, England, part of the London Borough of Ealing and is one of its seven major towns.
