Muş (; hy, Մուշ; ku, Mûş) is a city and the provincial capital of Muş Province in Turkey. Its population is mostly Kurds. Etymology Various explanations of the origin of Muş's name exist. Its name is sometimes associated with the Armenian word ''mshush'' ( hy, մշուշ), meaning fog, explained by the fact that the town and the surrounding plain are frequently covered in fog in the mornings. Varto
Varto (, ku, Gimgim, grc-x-medieval, Barzanissa) is a town and district in MuÅŸ Province, Turkey. The population of Varto city is around 13,000 with another 17,000 living in the villages. The largest population from Varto in Europe is in Berlin. History Some 5,200 Armenians were living in the district of Varto in 1914, including 600 in the town of Varto. Eight churches, 3 monasteries and 5 schools tended to their to spiritual needs. In June 1915 during the Armenian genocide, a great number of Varto's Armenians were massacred in the valley of Newala Ask. Varto was the site of major fighting during the Sheikh Said rebellion in 1924, and was the epicenter of the 1966 earthquake that killed nearly 3,000 people. In the 1990s Varto was one of the hotbeds of Kurdish militancy led by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Bingöl Mountains
Bingöl Mountains ( tr, Bingöl Dağları; Kurdish: ''Çiyayên Çewlig''), is a mountain range in Turkey at the zero point of the provincial border of Erzurum and Muş. Geology and geomorphology Bingöl Mountains is an example of Shield volcanoes. Dağkale Hill, which is the highest point of the Bingöl Mountains, is located within the borders of Varto district. Its height is 3193 m, length is 50–55 km, width is 30–35 km, area is 1500 km2. The caldera edges of Mount Bingöl and the plateaus 2650–2800 m high have become glacial. There are at least 100 lakes large enough to be mapped on the mountain. The main structure of the mountain consists of andesite and basalts. Villages In Varto District
