Yanticaw Park
Yanticaw Park is an Essex County-owned park in Nutley, New Jersey along the Third River. It is located between Centre Street and Chestnut Street, extending east to Passaic Avenue. History After tremendous pressure from Nutley residents, Essex County began purchasing land in 1911 for creation of the park. Wetlands in the park were drained, and a dam was set up to form a lake. The park was completed in 1914. In 1962, the lake, containing a small island was drained and a channel was dug as a continuation of the natural Third River from the south. "Girls' Park" The lower section of the park, east of Park Drive, is commonly known as Girls' Park. This is the part of the park containing the Third River. It also includes the Frank A. Nutley is a township in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 30,143. What is now Nutley was originally incorporated as Franklin Township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 18, 1874, from portions of Belleville Township. The Third River, also known as the Yantecaw River (possibly from Munsee ''yu wandakw'', "here this way"), is the third (upstream) main tributary of the Passaic River in Passaic and Essex Counties, New Jersey in the United States. The river originates in the Great Notch Reservoir in Woodland Park, New Jersey. It then runs through the towns of Little Falls, Clifton and Montclair. It then goes into Clifton a second time, runs through Bloomfield, through the grounds of the Upper Montclair Country Club, and then the Glen Ridge Country Club. After this, it runs by Bloomfield's North Middle School where it forms Clarks Pond which is used by the school's science classes to help teach biology.
