Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre
The Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre is a Chinese alpine ski resort in Yanqing District, a suburban district in Beijing. It opened in 2019. It is 90 km (55 mi) northwest from the urban center of Beijing. It is the venue for all, speed and technical, both men's and women's alpine skiing events for the 2022 Winter Olympics. History The centre was constructed as part of the Yanqing cluster of 2022 Winter Olympics venues, alongside the Yanqing National Sliding Centre. It opened in 2019. It planned to host a FIS Alpine Ski World Cup meet in February 2020, but it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China. Yanqing District (), formerly known as Yanqing County before 2015, is a District (China), district of the municipality of Beijing located northwest of the city proper of Beijing. Rock (ski Course)
Rock is the Olympic downhill ski course in China, located in Yanqing District, part of National Alpine Ski Centre resort, opened in 2022. It is approximately northwest of Beijing, which hosted the speed alpine skiing events of the 2022 Winter Olympics. The course was designed by Bernhard Russi, assisted by Didier Defago; both are Olympic downhill champions (1972, 2010) from Switzerland. According to Russi, "Rock" is most similar to the "Birds of Prey" course in the United States, located at Beaver Creek, Colorado. This course has a very unusual terrain configuration, which has no resemblance to any other top level course around the world, as it runs mostly along the top of the ridge and in the canyon in bottom part. Ice River is the Olympic technical ski course in China, located in Yanqing District, part of National Alpine Ski Centre resort, opened in 2022. It is approximately northwest of Beijing, currently hosting the technical alpine skiing events of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
