Yankalilla Football Club
The Yankalilla Football Club is an Australian rules football club first formed in 1889 in Yankalilla, South Australia. Yankalilla was originally a member of the Fleurieu Football Association until it joined the Great Southern Football Association in 1935. In 1955, Yankalilla entered a reserves team in the Southern Football Association B-Grade competition and the following season joined that competition entirely. Yankalilla remained in the Southern Football League until the end of the 1967 season when they transferred back to the Great Southern Football League where they have remained since. Yankalilla continue to field Senior and Junior teams in the Great Southern Football League. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Yankalilla, South Australia
Yankalilla is an agriculturally based town situated on the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, located 72 km south of the state's capital of Adelaide. The town is nestled in the Bungala River (South Australia), Bungala River valley, overlooked by the southern Mount Lofty Ranges and acts as a service centre for the surrounding agricultural district. In the early stages of the colonisation of the state, Yankalilla was a highly important location, but its close proximity to Adelaide and the advent of fast transport has greatly diminished this position. Kym Koster
Kym Koster (born 1 February 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played 133 games in the Australian Football League, kicking 44 goals. Recruited from South Australian National Football League side South Adelaide, Koster made his AFL debut for Footscray in 1994, playing 38 games and kicking 13 goals. He transferred to Adelaide in 1996 where he played a further 95 games and kicked 31 goals until 2000. Koster was a member of the 1997 and 1998 Adelaide Premiership teams. Greg Whittlesea
Gregory Whittlesea (born 23 July 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with in the Australian Football League (AFL) and with and in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL) during the 1980s and 1990s. Whittlesea captained Sturt from 1987 to 1990 and won the Magarey Medal in 1988. He won successive best and fairest awards in 1987 and 1988. At the 1988 Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival he represented South Australia and earned All-Australian selection. In 1991 AFL season, 1991 he was recruited by Hawthorn, but managed only four games. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Magarey Medal
The Magarey Medal is an Australian rules football honour awarded annually since 1898 to the fairest and most brilliant player in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), as judged by field umpires. The award was created by William Ashley Magarey, then chairman of the league. The current recipient is Aaron Young. History William Magarey was born in Adelaide, South Australia. A lawyer by vocation, he had an enduring interest in sports, although he did not play football. He was, however, an active sports administrator who, in 1897, became the inaugural Chairman of the South Australian Football Association (later renamed the SANFL). The sport at that time was known for often rough play, and Magarey wanted to help combat this, and help gain more respect for umpires. Sturt Football Club
The Sturt Football Club, nicknamed The Double Blues, is a semi-professional Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Unley, South Australia, which plays in the South Australian National Football League. Founded in 1901 by the Sturt Cricket Club, the club initially struggled to make the finals, however, in 1915 they won their first Premiership.
