Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station
The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station (YNPS; ) is a nuclear power plant in Guangdong province, China. The site is Dongping Town, Yangjiang City in western Guangdong Province. The station has six 1,000 megawatt (MW) CPR-1000 pressurized water reactors (PWRs). The plant began commercial operation in March 2014, and as of 2019 is the largest nuclear power station in China. History The site in Yangjiang was selected for nuclear development in 1988. The project was approved in 2004. The plant was originally to be one of the first in China to host Generation III reactors — specifically AP1000 reactors. In 2007 however, plans were revised from the AP1000 design to EPR design. The Taishan Nuclear Power Plant () is a nuclear power plant in Taishan, Guangdong province, China. The plant features two operational EPR reactors. The first unit, Taishan 1, entered commercial service in December 2018, but was shut down from July 2021 to August 2022 to investigate and fix issues with fuel rod cladding. The second unit, Taishan 2, entered commercial service in September 2019. Delays at other EPR construction sites in Finland and France meant that Taishan was the first nuclear power plant to have an operational EPR. China is one of the world's largest producers of nuclear power. The country ranks third in the world both in total nuclear power capacity installed and electricity generated, accounting for around one tenth of global nuclear power generated. Nuclear power contributed 4.9% of the total Chinese electricity production in 2019, with 348.1 TWh. As of September 2022, China operates a total of 53 nuclear reactors, with a total capacity of 55.6 gigawatt (GW). This was short of the previous target of 58GW of installed capacity by 2020. More than 20 reactors are under construction with a total capacity of 24.2 GW. Core Catcher
A core catcher is a device provided to catch the molten core material ( corium) of a nuclear reactor in case of a nuclear meltdown and prevent it from escaping the containment building. A core catcher is made from a special concrete ceramic to prevent material from trickling through; it also has a cooling mechanism to cool down the core material. The core catcher of the European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) has 170 m² expansion area and a mass of 500 t. Ningde Nuclear Power Plant
Ningde Nuclear Power Plant () is a nuclear power plant in Fujian province, China. The site is located in Beiwan village in the town of Qinyu, Fuding, Ningde, Fujian. The plant will ultimately have six 1,080 megawatt (MWe) CPR-1000 pressurized water reactors (PWRs). The first reactor began operation on 18 April 2013.The Ningde Nuclear Power project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in 2007. Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant
The Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant (红沿河核电站) is located in Donggang Town, Wafangdian in Liaoning, Liaoning Province of China. The site is within the Prefecture-level city of Dalian, north of Dalian City proper. The first unit started commercial operations in June 2013. Phase I consists of four CPR-1000 reactors, which is a design developed by China from the Framatome-designed Pressurized water reactor, PWRs at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.
