Yanghyun Prize
The Yanghyun Prize is an annual award for artistic achievement. It was created in 2008 following the wishes of Sooho Cho who promoted various cultural activities with the ultimate goal of bringing Korean art to the world stage. The Prize, awarded each year to an artist for his or her significant achievement, rewards a cash prize of KRW 100,000,000 (approximately $90,000) and a chance to showcase a full exhibition at one of the world's most renowned galleries or museums of the winner's choice within 3 years of receiving the prize. Jewyo Rhii
Jewyo Rhii (; born 1971) is a visual artist known for her sculptural installation, video, drawing, performance, and publications. Constantly displacing herself from her native Seoul, Korea, to study and work in Western Europe and the US, Rhii has come to embrace this fluid lifestyle as an integral part of her work, in such a way that her studios have functioned as exhibition spaces, and exhibition spaces as studios. Akram Zaatari
Akram Zaatari (born 1966 in Sidon, Lebanon) is a filmmaker, photographer, archival artist and curator. In 1997, he co-founded the Arab Image Foundation with photographers Fouad Elkoury, and Samer Mohdad. His work is largely based on collecting, studying and archiving the photographic history of the Arab World. Zaatari was selected to represent Lebanon at the 2013 Venice Biennale by Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath, curators for the Lebanese Pavilion. Work Zaatari has been exploring issues pertinent to post-war Lebanon. Abraham Cruzvillegas
Abraham Cruzvillegas (born 1968, Mexico City) is a Mexican visual artist. He is best known for his work with found objects, and particularly his ongoing "autoconstrucción" project. Biography Cruzvillegas grew up in Ajusco, a district in the south of Mexico City. He studied Philosophy and Art at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He later became a professor and went on to teach Art History and Theory at UNAM. As a sculptor and writer, Cruzvillegas began as a central participant in a new wave of conceptual art in Mexico City during the 1980s and 90s, studying under Gabriel Orozco from 1987 to 1991 in the "Taller de los Viernes" sessions. Rivane Neuenschwander (born 1967) is a Brazilian artist. She is known for work that explores language, nature, geography, the passing of time and social interactions. At times her works are interactive, involving viewers in spontaneous and participatory actions. In her installations, films and photographs, Rivane Neuenschwander employs fragile unassuming materials to create aesthetic experiences, a process she describes as "ethereal materialism". Biography Neuenschwander was born in 1967 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Otobong Nkanga
Otobong Nkanga (born 1974) is a Nigerian-born visual artist and performance artist, based in Antwerp, Belgium. In 2015 she won the Yanghyun Prize. In her work she explores the social and topographical changes of her environment, observes their inherent complexities and understands how resources such as soil and earth, and their potential values, are subject to regional and cultural analysis.
