Yang Wei (engineer)
Yang Wei (; born February 16, 1954) is a Chinese mechanical engineer. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and served as President of Zhejiang University from August 2002 to February 2013. Biography Yang was born in Beijing in February 1954, the son of chemical engineer Yang Guanghua. Yang studied at the Department of Material and Heat Engineering of Northwestern Polytechnical University, and graduated in 1976. In 1981, Yang received M.Eng from the Department of Engineering Mechanics, Tsinghua University. Yang obtained his PhD from Brown University in United States in 1984. December 1989, Yang was promoted to professorship at Tsinghua University. From 1997 to 2004, he was the head of the Department of Engineering Mechanics at Tsinghua. In August 2004, Yang became executive vice-dean of the School of Aerospace, Tsinghua University. In August 2006, Yang was appointed President of Zhejiang University. Yang (surname)
Yang (; ) is the transcription of a Chinese family name. It is the sixth most common surname in Mainland China. It is the 16th surname on the ''Hundred Family Surnames'' text. The Yang clan was founded by Boqiao, son of Duke Wu of Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period of the Ji (姬) surname, the surname of the royal family during the Zhou dynasty ) who was enfeoffed in the state of Yang. History The German sociologist Wolfram Eberhard calls Yang the "Monkey Clan", citing the totemistic myth recorded in the ''Soushenji'' and ''Fayuan Zhulin'' that the Yangs living in southwestern Shu (modern Sichuan) were descendants of monkeys. Lin Jianhua
Lin Jianhua (; born October 1955) is a Chinese chemist who served as president of Peking University from 2015 to 2018. Previously he was president of Chongqing University from December 2010 to June 2013, and president of Zhejiang University between June 2013 to February 2015. Life and career Lin was born and raised in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, with his ancestral home in Gaomi, Shandong. During the Cultural Revolution, he taught at a school in Jalaid Banner, Inner Mongolia. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from Peking University in 1986. He studied at Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Iowa State University, and Ames Laboratory from 1988 to 1993.
