Yan Yean Road is a major road in the outer north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Yan Yean Road begins at the intersection with Diamond Creek Road and Aqueduct Road in Diamond Creek, extending northward through the suburbs of Plenty, Yarrambat and Doreen before terminating in Yan Yean near the Yan Yean Reservoir. The road, previously a rural road until development in the 2000s, is now an important arterial link between the traditional north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne and new estates in Doreen and Mernda. Yan Yean is a locality in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 34 km north-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Whittlesea and Shire of Nillumbik local government areas. Diamond Creek is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 23 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Diamond Creek recorded a population of 12,503 at the 2021 census. History There are two ideas about where Diamond Creek got its name. Victoria's Register of Geographic Names says that it was because of the way the stones glistened in the creek water. Local legend says it is because of a bull who was trying to cross a creek. The bull had a diamond shaped white patch on its head and found difficulty crossing the creek. Yarrambat is a town in Victoria, Australia, 24 km north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. Yan Yean Reservoir
Yan Yean Reservoir is the oldest water supply for the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. At the time of its completion in 1857 it was the largest artificial reservoir in the world. It is north of the city within the eponymous locality of Yan Yean, and is built on the Plenty River, a tributary of the Yarra River. An embankment high holds back of water. Mernda
Mernda is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 28 km north-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Mernda recorded a population of 23,369 at the 2021 census. History The first structure by European settlers was built in 1841 and bore the title of The Bridge Inn.
