Yamaska (provincial Electoral District)
Yamaska was a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). Its final election was in 1970. It disappeared in the 1973 election and its successor electoral district was Nicolet-Yamaska. Montérégie
Montérégie () is an administrative region in the southwest part of Quebec. It includes the cities of Boucherville, Brossard, Châteauguay, Longueuil, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion. The region had a population of 1,507,070 as of the 2016 census and a land area of , giving it a population density of 135.4 inhabitants/km2 (350 per sq. mi.). With approximately 18.5% of the province's population, it is the second most populous region of Quebec after Montreal. The majority of the population lives near the Saint Lawrence River, on the south shore of Montreal. Montérégie is known for its vineyards, orchards, panoramas, products, and the Monteregian mountains. The region is both urban (second in terms of population in Quebec) and rural. Joseph-Nestor Duguay
Joseph-Nestor Duguay (March 15, 1846 – March 17, 1907) was a businessman and political figure in Quebec. He represented Yamaska in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1874 to 1875 as a Conservative. He was born in Baie-du-Febvre, Canada East, the son of Joseph Duguay Joseph Duguay (April 27, 1816 – August 2, 1891) was a Quebec merchant and political figure. He represented Yamaska in the House of Commons of Canada from 1873 to 1874 as a Conservative member. Union Nationale (Quebec)
The Union nationale () was a conservative and nationalist provincial political party in Quebec, Canada, that identified with Québécois autonomism. It was created during the Great Depression and held power in Quebec from 1936 to 1939, and from 1944 to 1960 and from 1966 to 1970. The party was founded by Maurice Duplessis, who led it until his death in 1959. The party was often referred to in English as the National Union, especially when it was still an electoral force, by both the media and, at times, the party. Louis-Jules Allard (21 January 1859 – 3 January 1945) was a Canadian politician in the province of Quebec. Victor Gladu
Victor Gladu (April 16, 1844 – December 1, 1897) was a notary and political figure in Quebec. He represented Yamaska in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1886 to 1897 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Canada East, the son of notary Victor Gladu and Adée Perrin, and was educated at the Jesuit College in Montreal, Quebec. Pilon articled as a notary with Félix Geoffrion, qualified to practise in 1886 and set up practice in Saint-François-du-Lac. In 1868, he married Marie Gill. He was a real estate agent for John Joseph Caldwell Abbott. Gladu was secretary-treasurer for the Agricultural Society for Yamaska County. Jonathan Saxton Campbell Würtele
Jonathan Saxton Campbell Würtele, (January 27, 1828 – April 24, 1904) was a Quebec seigneur, lawyer, judge and political figure. He represented Yamaska in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1875 to 1886. Biography He was born at Quebec City in 1828, the son of merchant Jonathan Würtele. He attended Quebec High School, studied law privately with Jean Chabot, and was called to the bar in 1850. He practised law at Montreal with Henry Hague Judah. After the death of his father in 1853, he inherited the seigneuries of Deguire (also known as Rivière-David), Bourg-Marie-Est, Saint-François and La Lussaudière.
