Yakushima Airport
is an airport located on the island of Yakushima in Kumage District, Kagoshima, Kumage District, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. History The airport was opened in 1963 with an 1100-meter runway. The runway was extended to 1200 meters in 1975 and to 1500 meters in 1976. The runway was hardened in 2004 so as to allow De Havilland Canada Dash 8, DHC-8-400 aircraft to operate. A further extension to 2000m has been approved, which will allow jet aircraft to operate. The master plan and environmental assessment for the extension are to be prepared in 2023. Facilities The airport has a single terminal building with apron parking for two propeller aircraft. It is operational from 8:30 to 19:30 daily. is a prefecture of Japan located on the island of Kyushu and the Ryukyu Islands. Asphalt concrete (commonly called asphalt, blacktop, or pavement in North America, and tarmac, bitumen macadam, or rolled asphalt in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland) is a composite material commonly used to surface roads, parking lots, airports, and the core of embankment dams. The De Havilland Canada DHC-8, commonly known as the Dash 8, is a series of turboprop-powered regional airliners, introduced by de Havilland Canada (DHC) in 1984. DHC was later bought by Boeing in 1988, then by Bombardier in 1992; then by Longview Aviation Capital in 2019, reviving the De Havilland Canada brand. Powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100s, it was developed from the Dash 7 with improved cruise performance and lower operational costs, but without STOL performance.
