Yakshi (novel)
''Yakshi'' is a Malayalam novel written by Malayattoor Ramakrishnan in 1967. The novel follows a college lecturer, Srinivasan, who is disfigured in an accident in his college lab. He meets a beautiful woman who is willing to accept him despite his disfigurement. But after a while, Srinivasan begins to doubt that the woman is all she appears - or even human. In 1968, the novel was adapted into a film with same name starring Sathyan. In 1993, ''Yakshi'' was shown in BBC's ''Off the Shelf'' program as 12 episodes. In 1995, Hema Malini directed a telefilm in Hindi for Zee TV titled ''Mohini'' with Sudesh Berry and Madhoo Madhoo Shah (Madhubala) (born Padma Malini; 26 March 1969) is an Indian actress known for her works predominantly in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada language films. Malayattoor Ramakrishnan
K. V. Ramakrishna Iyer, better known by his pen name, Malayattoor Ramakrishnan (27 May 1927 – 27 December 1997), was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature, cartoonist, lawyer, judicial magistrate, and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer. He was best known for his novels, short stories and biographical sketches and his works include '' Yanthram'', ''Verukal'', ''Yakshi'' and ''Service Story – Ente IAS Dinangal''. He received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for Novel in 1967. He was also a recipient of the Vayalar Award in 1979. Malayalam (; , ) is a Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry (Mahé district) by the Malayali people. ''Yakshi'' is a 1968 Malayalam-language psychological thriller film, directed by K. S. Sethumadhavan and written by Thoppil Bhasi, based on Malayattoor Ramakrishnan's novel of the same name. The film stars Sathyan, Sharada, Adoor Bhasi, N. Govindan Kutty, Bahadoor, Ushakumari, Sukumari, Rajakokila and Radhika. It is considered by historians to be the first psychological thriller in Malayalam cinema. Sathyaneshan Nadar
Sathyan (born Cheruvilakathu Veetil Manuel Sathyanesan Nadar; 9 November 1912 – 15 June 1971) was an Indian actor known for his work in Malayalam cinema. Known for his own style and versatility in acting, Satyan was one of the pioneers of realistic acting in Indian film industry. He is respectfully called Sathyan Master. He was also a soldier in the British Indian Army and later a police officer with the Travancore State Police. Sathyan served as an officer in the British Indian Army during World War II. After the war he joined the Travancore state police as an inspector in late 1940s. During this time he got interested in acting and acted in amateur stage plays. He made his debut film in 1952 film Athmasakhi and rose to stardom with the critically acclaimed film Neelakuyil in 1954.
